Some of the things I have heard about Rogaine and Propecia distress me, but as I have noticed slight thinning of the hair about my crown, I'm seeking information regarding holistic treatments for the bane that hangs over the heads of longhairs worldwide: namely, Androgenic Alopecia.
My interests lie in treatments that do not have potential severe side effects. What do all of you know regarding vitamins and such that strengthen hair health and defend against MPB? Anything else relevant would be highly appreciated, as well! : )

Hi Venya, you may want to check out a thread by JK. It is number 281320. He has been able to treat his MPB, with impressive results. Do check it out.
Some nutrients that may help with thinning hair:
lecithin
vitamin B12
MSM
protein
zinc
biotin
These are some of the nutrients for hair. Consuming soybeans may supress androgens a bit. They contain estrogens. I am not 100% sure on this one, though.

Thanks, man! I'm sure there have been countless threads on the aforementioned, but I've always had trouble with combing through MLHH's Archives, so thanks for a lead! : )

Hi Venya,
About two weeks ago, as an experiment, I wanted to see if what RS66LD said was true about 1.5" of hair growth (message #281129), so I went to Walgreens and bought a bottle of Finest Natural Biotin (5mg) and Fish, Flax & Borage Oils (Omega 3-6-9 Fatty Acids - same brand). It's too early to tell if my hair on my head has done what the previous thread has mentioned, but I have noticed increased hair growth on my body, so I can only assume that that translates to increased hair growth on my scalp.
I had looked up the side effects of these two vitamins prior to buying them. It seems that from what I read, zero with biotin and next to nothing with Omega 3-6-9 (supposedly both are supposed to be healthy). The only side effect that I've experienced is some increased acne.
Once other interesting side effect that I've experienced is that I've lost eight stubborn pounds since I started taking these two vitamins. When my weight first started going down, I was a little shocked and looked into it, and I guess both vitamins are supposed to help that in various ways. The vitamins ate the only thing that I can attribute to what would of caused that. This is only a side note, though.
I noticed that Absalom had biotin as one of the things listed on his post, so good luck on what ever you try and I wish you the best, man! Hope your worst fears never come to pass!!!
Sincerely,
Eric (a.k.a. yoshiki)
Many thanks, Yoshiki!
It's helpful to hear from someone providing an account of their personal usage of hair growth vitamins. May your one and a half inches of hair be followed by many more. Take care, and thanks again for your help! : )
