As some of you are aware, I have been contemplating an undercut for several months. Well today I had it done and I think its great. It is not severe, as I have had about an inch shaved all round the hairline.
All the dry, saggy, wiry, curly, wavey, awkward mass is off!
It hangs better, and feels lighter on my head, and the hair thats long is very healthy and looks 100 times better as it s not sticking out and thick at the bottom.
I should have had this done months ago but I hav been doing my research and I am pleased with the results. I had it shaved at number 2, so I guess I am going have to go back each month for maintenence.
Anyway, I like it, its boosted my confidence of my hair so Im pleased.
I recomend anyone whos contemplating to go ahead,
BUT- be careful on the severity!!!! I only had an inch and its made a difference which I am pleased with.
I tied my hair also, and the tail looked awsome over the shave.
Hey man, I knew you'd like it! Well, at least I hoped you would.
Cool.
Hey i've heard a bit about undercuts. but i'm not to sure what they are and what the barber does. Could someone please explain?
Cheers
He cuts underneath the long hair. The hair near the hairline, is shaved off. If is good for people who have thick hair, or tie it up as it takes away that awkward thick stuff from around the edge of your otherwise healthy, silky long hair.
I had a friend with extra-thick hair that did that and it was really very nice. I'm sure it wouldn't work for everybody, though.
I had an undercut for about a year. The only problem was that each time I had it shaved, the undercut would get bigger. No matter how careful I was, I always seemed to shave a few of the long hairs too. When the undercut got too big in my opinion, I stopped doing it. Now it's been almost 9 months and I feel better without the undercut. Almost all my hair fits in the tail, including the portion that was shaved.
Good you're pleased with the results, i would personally never do it though.
Do you usually wear your hair in a tail? If you don't, there really is no point to this whole "maintenance" thing. Just think, in a month, for the average guy, your hair will have grown from a #2 to a #6..big deal, especially if no one sees it. I dont see why people dont let it get an inch or two, and save money, Or buy their own clippers and do it themselves. Maybe if you wanted to look real sharp for a job interview or something..
BTW, Have you seen that Chef on TV, I forgot his name, but hes got long orange hair tied back, and an slight undercut. I've don't think I've ever seen long orange hair on a guy. I have no point...anyway glad you like the undercut, its definitly the way to go, Good luck.

I think you mean Molto Mario.
Mario Batali. Owner of Babbo, an upscale Italian restraunt in NYC. Despite his name, and fluency in Italian, Batali was actually born in Washington state.
Sorry, but I'm training to become a pastry chef, so I have WAY too much useless food knowledge! Plus, Mario looks like an older, shorter haired (beard included) version of me--seriously!
I have been thinking about getting one, too. I might actually do it after reading your post. When you get a chance, could you post a pic?
