I just got a wooden comb online for about $6. Made in china, from 'internatural.com' , through a google shopping search. I thought I'd try it. There was some other nice gentleman here from the UK who said he swore by his wooden comb. I can see why. I used it in the shower, and it went through my hair like magic. It was so unbelieveable, I thought maybe it just wasn't going through my hair, but it was. I used my old heavy plastic one to check, and only found one little tangle. It has about twice as many teeth as the wooden one. I thought I'd go back to the plastic one, but as I used it I remembered how hard it was to get through my hair, so I picked up the wooden one again. I'm so glad I got that thing. After combing my hair down on the sides, parted in the middle, I just had to toss it behind my shoulders & run my fingers through it quickly, then start combing all across my head, whereas with the plastic one, I'd have to go very carefully from the bottom of my scalp up to the top, and get it snagged alot at the top part. The wooden one pulls out the loose ones really well too. Here's the very long link to the google shopping info about it. There's still some left I think.

Hi John C.
I regularly use only Wooden and Bone Horn Combs on my hair. These combs are better for your hair and are a lot less harsh then the cheaper more common synthetic plastic combs which apparently wear away on the hair shaft more. The organically made ones don't create static on your hair when using them unlike the plastic ones.
In my experience they make hair combing easier and over time the natural oils from the hair and scalp will be absorbed into these combs and they will just get better the more you use them. Our forebears generally used these combs before 1950 for many centuries.
I bought a series of antique wooden combs from this shop in Australia which specialises in antique domestic stuff. These combs were made in the 1920's in France and laid unopened in a warehouse for decades and were in as new condition when i purchased them.
Also it is best to keep these combs in a dry place when not in use as they do have a tendency to warp a bit from the humidity if left in a steamed room after a shower.
As for buying them, just check on your local ebay site as there are some wondeful examples for sale both locally and worldwide. Try using a Tibetan Yak bone comb sometime. They are wonderful and will last a lifetime.
Best,
Duncan
Oh My God Duncan, you're awesome!!! ;p Thank you for all that information and inspiration. I would LOVE to try a Yak bone comb!!! You've got me going now! Hehe! I'm gonna start looking.....

In fact, I'm going to copy & past your post in an email to myself like I do with information I want to save! I don't feel you took your careful time with it so that I would just look at it briefly then forget.
I am going to get one of these. My hair is so long that it is very difficult to comb through. I need something that makes grooming my hair less of a chore. This seems to be a God send.
Which comb did you get? Was it the one with widely spaced teeth?
Scott
Yes. From internatural.com, in the clickable like reply post by Antinius. I don't know if I spelled his name right.
Thanks for that clickable link Antinous as that typed out one John gave us made my eyes glaze over. Some of these web addresses are so incredibly long.Anyway your link work like a charm:)
Mark
I know, really!!!!!! I cringed when I copied and pasted that one, thinking I might hear about it!!!!! Haha!!
See ya Mark.
- John C
I should've done that, but was in a hurry.
Hi John,
I've been using a wooden comb for the past year, and now use nothing else. I got mine from The Body Shop here in the UK for around £5 snall enough for the pocket, big enough for tangles!
Regards Ian
Ian - What type of wood is your comb made of from the Body Shop?
Duncan
Sorry Duncan, all it syas is "Support Community Trade!
Yes! You're the one I was referring to! Your comb is nicer than mine. Yours is all one piece, whereas mine has a strip along the top with the wood grain going the long way, to strengthen the teeth part which has grain going with the teeth. Mine is maple. I got it because it was cheap and I don't have the money for much right now, but wanted to try one very badly. The teeth on yours are spaced about the same as mine. Thank you for your previous post about it, which led to my search, my aquisition, and wonderful new experience.
Regards,
John C
Thanks John C for the recommendation-i have been looking for one in the department stores but I cannot seem to find one...I usually comb my hair after I shower and don't comb it or brush it again except with my fingers...Now that it is longer I am having a hard time with the tangles after I shower and like you i comb my ends first and work towards my scalp...But I will definitely try this website if I can't find one soon.
Good luck! Yes, I still combed it from the bottom up, but it went like, twice as fast, and it feels so good on my scalp too.
Duncans' reply is very good.

Darn! Wish I had known this John. I would have sent you the one I had and used when my hair was very long. But really, the wooden ones are the BEST of all! Got mine in a Mall down here.
Guess I will be holding some kind of contest on You Tube. Yup. (Just gotta figure-out the contest. LOL ) Any ideas?
The "prize" (if so it may be called) is that the winner would receive the original Justin Wooden Comb and leather Headband. And get this, a "for real" original autograph! And, I will flip the bill for postage too.
Real nice down here today for a change. A good day to take a nice walk through the park and see all of the beautiful things that nature has on display for us this time of year.
All the best-
Justin~
Ok, you got me smiling....... What does your comb look like? I like handleless, solid, big teeth. It's got your boy germs all over it though.. Hehe. ;p
- John C
Always nice to smile and that walk did me good. Stopped quite a few times to take in the "lovely beauty" of nature. Then things started to get wet and, well, you know how Oregon can be. A sudden shower so I headed home quick! LOL :-)
The comb is 5-1/2" long with 16 teeth and no handle. Still has the impression long design of the store it came from: "The Body Shop." Real, nice and slick and smooth it is. Teeth are 1-1/4" long but going the whole distance measures 2." Loaded with germs I suppose but such friendly ones.

'Such friendly germs' Heh. ;p I'm so mean, aren't I??? I was just being mischieveous. Actually it would have a very nice vibration to it I'm sure. It sounds very nice, but you'll need it again I'm certain.
