Hey there, I used to have my hair over shoulder length, as seen here:

I cut it off a year ago due to it getting damaged from excessive ironing (I was an idiot and didn't know the dangers of ironing daily) I want to regrow it now that it's healthy again, but I have a question. My hair is currently longer on the front and pretty short on the back, as seen here:

Do I even it out or just let it grow?
ps. I tried growing it a few times, but i go through a terrible awkward stage where it starts curling a bit and it looks like I have horns (not even kidding about that)I use hair mousse to give it a slight hold. Is that ok or does it damage the hair?
It's actually sort of preferable, in my opinion, man. I've had to cut my hair for school for years, and it has sort of led to extremely long bangs (so much, that I have to keep it combed back out of my face) and a short back. It just means that the hair will be generally all in the same place (when worn in the back), and thus, easier to handle once you grow it out again. Good luck!

Venya
A) Let it grow.
B) Mousse or hair spray is fine for the awkward stage, but find some without alcohol.

Thats up to you but it doesnt really matter, My brother let his hair grow out from a fade haircut and didnt even it out till it was long and it didnt look bad, it was bearly noticeable.
Just start growing - you may need to even it out in three years time but don't fret.
