Been a while since my last update (2 years!), I haven't trimmed anything off. I've far exceeded my original goal length, and just kept going. It's only just the past 6 months started to become more difficult to manage. It just tends to get tangled a lot more than it used to. My wife thinks the problem is that my hair is very dry, and recommended oiling my hair. I've tried it a couple of times after washing, and I think it makes a real difference. I'm curious though, why would it take two years before I needed to do this, or should I've been doing it the entire time?
11 Month Update [PIC]
And here's one to show the length a bit better.
That is classic, sir! Your hair is exactly at the length I plan for my own--only about three more inches to go.

Hi Raverix,
That's amazing growth for 3 years and looks great. Hope you keep it growing. I liked the other action pic as well.
Cheers,

Very impressive, thanks for sharing.Ian
Looks awesome progress for 2 years.
Do you get to braid it or ever try a segmented tail?
Tes
Hey Ravenix, thanks for you post.Your first pic is a true hair action shot as someone surely had to be fast on that camera trigger!LOL.The second one does do a much better job showing your mane off and what an awesome tail you have! All I can add is to keep doing what your doing.Very impressive:)Cheers

Hi Raverix,
Thank you for sharing your update, and your hair is progressing very well indeed. That is one awesome LONG ponytail!
Keep it growing,
David
Yesssssssssssssss! Now that is awesome!
I guess it's just the length that makes it more tangled now, neccessitating a different regime of oiling. I pretty much had the same thing happen. I wouldn't want to deal with it without my coconut oil.

Great hair and excellent picture, rock on :))
Cheers Dave
Hello Raverix,
That is one of the best update pics I have seen on the board. Awesome! I can't really advise you about the oil issue, I've never used it myself.
Take care and keep it growing mate!
Neil.
Awesome hair! Mine always gets tangled, even after only a few months it started to happen... just have to finger comb and them use a wide tooth comb. I found that a boar bristle brush is a great help too, otherwise you get the dreaded snapping sound....
The longer the hair is, and the more the strands can move relative to each other, the more tangling can happen. Also, accumulated mechanical damage, both from this movement and from brushing/combing/external factors will tend to increase tangling. Products (oils, etc) can reduce both the movement and the friction and reduce tangling and additional damage. However, products can't fix the actual damage.
If you intend to grow to extreme lengths, yes, you should treat your hair like old lace from the get go, if your goal is shorter, and you plan on maintenance trimming (which will remove the most damaged oldest ends), then you may not have to be so careful. Avoiding and preventing damage does make keeping and enjoying long hair an easier and more pleasant task though.
Awesome growth! Do you have pics of your hair at the 1.5-2 year mark?
Hello to Raverix,
Your got a great badass rocker head of hair there. Mine is a lot more curly and tangles easily so I wouldn't be able to get away with swishing it around! Love the photo and your as in the picture your hair trully rocks.
Duncan
Simply awesome. You've achieved tremendous length in just 3 years. Thanks for sharing!

At that length, you really need to be putting some kind of conditioner on it ~ for a lot of people, the rinse-off conditioner used after shampooing is not enough. Try different oils/conditioning products and routines to see what works for you. Also, if you have hard water where you live, for some people this can contribute to tangling/harder to manage hair. And if you are using a really cheap shampoo, thinking that a good quality conditioner will make up for it -- it won't. Using quality products all around make a difference.
P.S. Why do I suddenly have a Metallica song in my head??? ;)
