I've posted once or twice here on the board... mainly staying in the shadows, but this is the first time I've posted a picture of myself here. Hi everyone!
I can't quite honestly say how long I've been growing out my hair. I've trimmed and cut it again and again over the years under pressure, but this time for sure I'm committed to growing it all the way out! My wife is finally cautiously supporting me on this one.
I was hoping to have it long enough in the front in time for school so that I could put in into a lower ponytail and have it look neat so that my boss would be happy... hmmm, epic fail! We'll just have to see what she says, if anything, by the time August rolls around *sigh*.....
The problem with my hair is that it curls a bit and can look a bit like a bush, if that's a good description. My parents say I look like I live out on the street ~_~ . Oh well, anything other than short hair to them is unacceptable - what do they know, huh?
The beginning of a long journey (hopefully it doesn't end early, heh). Thank you for your time and for looking!!!
Sincerely,
yoshiki
Hi Yishiki, Good to see your picture at last, and wow, you've got the basis there for a great head of long hair. Good thickness, colour and shape that will look better and better with added length. Keep us posted with your progress. Ian
Hey Yoshiki,
welcome to the board, everything seems to be coming along really well, try and ignore the comments, they generally subside once people realise you are serious about growing your hair out.
cheers Dave
Be sure and let her say it first. Don't bring up the subject, for this will be like opening a can of worms.
When growing out hair it ALWAYS does crazy things until long enough to settle down. This is 100% normal. It happens to all of us. As for your parents comment, I have seen many a Buzz Cut people out on the streets these days as the economy is so bad. Also, you will see lots of guys with very short hair in prison I believe. Sounds like a typical "parent comment" looking after their own image within society who tries to control a sons right to individual expression as to how he desires to have his hair. Just think, "if" you had long hair and were presently in a Rock Band right now hauling in 2-3 Million a year. Guess what their comment(?) would be then? I rest my case.
Justin~
Great to see a picture of your progress, man! All that I can really say about the trials of being a longhair, is that you have to be adamant, and display resolution and confidence in your decision to do so. People will respect those who are firm in their decisions, even if they cant like them for personal reasons. May your supervisors tolerate your new decision, or better yet, embrace and acknowledge your individuality! All that you can really do is take good care of it, develop a backbone for ignorance, and own your identity, especially in this countercultural regard. I sincerely hope that all turns out for you, Eric. Best of luck!
С ужавением,
Venya
Hey yoshiki,
Awesome head of hair, dude!
Ignore the negative comments and let your hair grow. You can always come back here to the board for support and encouragement. Just imagine what your hair is going to look like in twenty (20) months when it has enough volume and weight to flow down nicely. Look forward to how it is going to feel on your shoulders, back, and chest. If your boss makes any negative comments just explain that you have grown your hair to this point and that your hair is almost long enough to be tied back in a neat tail; please be patient.
You're one (1) of us now, bro. You're a born longhair; let it become the reality that is already in your psyche.
Raymond

Hi Yoshiki,
Good to have ya here at the board. your hair is looking great man! Reminds me of my hair wavy and curls at the end. Good to hear your not going to cut it anymore. Sorry to hear your boss is opposed to it . Are you a teacher ? Overseas ? Japan maybe ? I know in the oriental countries they dont look kindly to long hair on men, its the Macho thing goin on there.
Cheers
Glinka
didn't that guy that put nerve gas in the subways have really long hair? James/Tampa,Fl
You have outstanding hair to work with, bro. It would look fantastic if allowed to grow long.

Hi yoshiki,
Thank you for sharing your update with us, and your hair really does look good in this photo. It looks nice and thick, and the colour and waves are excellent too.
Keep it growing,
David

Welcome to MLHH, Yoshiki.
Your hair looks good. I wish you the best in convincing those around you to be patient, as it will look much better (and neater) with added length. Tell them that once it can be fully tailed it will look alright.
Scott
Thanks for the encouragement, the warm welcome and kind words everyone! I can't wait until the day when it's looooooong, but with that, that takes patience, so with time I will have to wait heh...
Actually, I have a lot more gray hair than the photo shows - it just mixes in pretty good with the color of hair I have. I'm glad never had my grandfather's hair, it turned pure gray at the age of 20. My mom at the age of 30. I'm 30 now, so I guess I'm stretching it out to 40 now maybe, but the gray still bothers me a bit~
To answer Glinka's question, no I don't live in the far east, I live in Middle America and I work with special needs students. I hope my boss will be understanding, but I guess there's always the thought of it getting pulled or appearance in front of parents. Oh well, like Venya, I'm going to hold strong, yeah (my dad also works at the same school which makes it interesting heheh...)!
But my wife is from China and I did live there for two years. It's rather interesting, a trend with some younger Japanese youth, as some of you probably already well know, is to grow out their hair, and that trend is slowly spreading to China - albeit China is still somewhat a rather conservative society, although that is changing rapidly.
Also, Chinese hair - wow! Like rame's hair (post #281879, which has some super wonderful hair!), is super thick and strong. It's very hard to pull out, almost like trying to pull out a carpet strand out of carpet, amazing stuff... you could almost make rope out of it! But I digress...
Anyways, thanks again everyone and I'll try to keep you all updated at time goes on ^_^ !.....
