I am rather confused about how often I should shampoo. Some here advise to shampoo every other day, and yet, my hair looks dry and greasy on the days that I do not shampoo it. My mother has told me that the overuse of product on male hair can clog pores and accelerate androgenic alopecia (MPB), so now, I find myself even further obfuscated.

I have straight thick hair. I rinse my hair while showering everyday but only shampoo then separately use rinse out conditioner every 6th day. I use no other product. It works for me. I live in the American Southwest, a rather dry climate. Your climate may require you to adjust to suit, however, I believe shampooing every day does not allow natural hair oils to travel down the individual hair shafts, resulting in dry, perhaps frizzy hair.
I've tried doing it less frequently, but my hair is horrible if I don't shampoo it every day. Do whatever works for you.
Hi Venya,
As has been said, it's very much what works for you. I only shampoo once a week using a sulphate free brand. Then, during the week I wash just with tepid water - and this seems to work for me. It's a bit trial and error before you find the right routine for you. Ian

Not good to shampoo every day as your scalp gets used to it and produces more oil to compensate.
I vatika overnight then shampoo and condition every 7-10 days.
If my hair seems to be a little greasy etc a bit of baby powder in my hair takes care of it.
The less I mess with my hair the better it looks and the healthier and stronger it gets.
Drinking a lot of water, good diet and sleep seems to help the most...lol
I use a little powder too when needed; sprinkle a small amount around, but not on, your hair part, then rub your fingers in a zig zag motion through your hair. I also brush my hair after. I have blonde hair, so the powder doesn't show up. If your hair is dark, I don't know how well this will work.
Also, do not use baby powder because it contains talc which is very bad to breathe (I honestly do not know why this product is still on the market, and advertised for use on infants, no less!). You can use a body powder with the ingredient 'corn starch', or you can actually use a small amount of straight corn starch (yes, the food product found in grocery stores).
Greetings Venya
I used to shampoo and condition daily but over the years maybe my hair has changed and it was just too dry and flyaway. Now I just shampoo and condition once per week and I like the feel of my hair better that way.Yes, it may look a bit oily but it feels smooth and silky, as the days go on, and does tangle less that way:)I do put either coconut oil or olive oil in it after the hair wash to avoid that first day of really dry hair. One thing I like about it looking more oily is that when I brush and tail my hair it has this cool shine to it when light is present:)Anyway I hope this is of help to you my friend.Cheers
Mark
Hi Venja, I'm in the once a week shampoo (medicated like T-Gel) and condition. The more you use shampoo the more you strip the natural oils from your hair and it will try and replace it, so you end up with greasy hair. Let nature do its thing and give it a helping hand once a week I say :)
