My Mother and I share the same type of hair(dry, wavy thick black hair) Both of our hairs react very similarly to products used etc...
This is what I don't get...
For the last 20+ years, she straightens, blow fry, teases and colors(several times a year) Her hair is still very shiny, thick and her ends are in good condition.
My hair....
I shampoo, condition and oil, that's it period. Right now while I continue to oil, it does help but still very damaged and brittle. In the 28 years I've been around, I've only straightened my hair maybe 3 times and this was not recently. Sssssooooooo what am I doing wrong?
Estrogen vs. testosterone.
Basically heh, though you could try shampooing less, also do you live together? Water quality and diet can also effect hair
Where I work shampooing less is out of the question. Gets pretty nasty in a machine shop :) Even though, I'm sure it would benefit my hair greatly.
No we don't live together. I am the proud owner of a 130 year old victorian :D
My diet is average. I'm sure cigarettes don't help much in the matter.
The house sounds awesome, you should probably invest in vitamins and a water softener, and yeah cigarettes aren't great for hair. When I smoked mine looked fuckin' terrible compared to how it looks now.
That's the problem. You work in a machine shop. I'm betting she doesn't. The simple fact that you must shampoo due to working there says the environment has a negative effect. I worked in machine shops for years and my hair was in terrible shape. Now I work in an office on a computer and my hair is very healthy. Not only is it not exposed to harsh chemicals and fumes, but it stays cleaner and I don't have to shampoo as often. Bottom line: you have a lot more maintenance to perform than her.
I can attest to the water thing... I recently spent 5 weeks staying with someone in Southern California, and my hair stayed pretty soft and smooth there, easy to wash and I washed it pretty much every other day with shampoo and conditioner, never had to use clarifying shampoo either. I'm now back home in Arkansas, where our water softener is broken, and upon my very first hair washing I noticed how much rougher and drier my hair felt and how it was harder to rinse out. Too much calcium and minerals in the water.
Hi Michael
Antinous is right. The chemical makeup of male and female hair is different, so you may have the same hair "type" but is will always have a different "feel"
Hi IanB, I figured that's what it could be. Just different chemical makeup of hair.
