Hey there, so this is my hair current growth at around 16 Months give or take. (from a buzz cut) haven't touched a hair on my head as far as trimming goes, even though the ends seem to be a bit scraggly.
I was just wondering if anyone could show me, or explain somehow where exactly facial hair sideburns start and the hairline ends, Or any other tips on how to maintain sideburns with long hair?
Also I was curious about hair gel, is it damaging to the hair?
I've considered using it on windy days and for a job interview I might have soon.
Thanks in advance.
First off, your hair is looking great! As to the question of sideburns, my stylist suggested that any hair below the top of the ear that couldn't easily be pulled behind the ear should be treated as part of the sideburns. Once your hair is long enough to pull into a tail it becomes a bit more obvious. I use a comb and scissors to trim my upper sideburns to a length that matches the lower portion.

Your sideburns start where the texture and length of the hair at the top of your ears changes. Sideburn hair does not grow long.
Where you shave them is a matter of personal preference with long hair. I currently shave mine as high as I can
to avoid any hint of side burn but many have them varying from half an inch to full ear length and more.
Hello Disarray,
I had this problem when I was a bit younger and my beard wasn't obviously thicker than my head hair. My only advice is that head hair does feel thinner and softer than beard hair. The line isn't defined so I cut just below where I think my side burns are. It is a pain in the arse though eh?
I wouldn't really know much about hair gel, I rarely use it. I'd imagine that if it wouldn't be a problem unless you absolutely drowned your hair every day with the stuff. Although personally, I'd try to use as little as possible.
Welcome aboard mate,
Neil.
