I thought to share this new book I found recently.
It is called
Hip Like Me: Years in the Life of a "Person of Hair"
by Geoffrey D.FALK
The author writes of his experiences over the years wearing long hair and the discrimination that he experienced.
From the rear of book
"Hip like Me is the story of Geoffrey Falk's experiences over a decade of being subjected to various forms of "hairism" and real discrimination for being a long-haired, irreligious software developer and aspiring musician in a short-hair world.
from the preface of the book is this passage
"There have been several documentaries made about tie-dyed fans of the Grateful Dead, following the band around on tour. The End of the Road was one such film. At one point in that movie the Deadheads stopped in Las Vegas before a show, and in the process of innocently enjoying the local slights wound up being brutalized by the police. Speaking about that mistreatment, a bystander objected:
Don't treat these people like animals, just 'cause their hair is long and they smell bad...That's how they treated black people years ago. They're takig away the most important right. The freedom of expression.
It was a black man who said that. And he's absolutely right."
A good read of 280 pages and you can buy copies of the book on the internet. However you can also down load from the authors personal website the text to read for free.

and lived with a beautiful wife in a mansion, and lets make me a high priced lawyer and keyed into high society.i could have dread locks down to my butt or any style hair down to my butt. and wouldn't catch any flack. just a thought James/Tampa,Fl
Of course you would the thoughts/comments would be along the line of
"how does a person who looks like that get to be a lawyer"
"Obviously that car is his uncles or some other rich family members that he has mooched off of."
"maybe his wife is blind."
"Boy he must have been born into wealth because someone like that couldn't have earned it."
"Wonder what family member died for him to get so lucky."
The comments are endless.

That's called intersectionality with classism, it's how power works under kyriarchal society.
