So I just got a tattoo (my first... part of my long standing campaign to make myself unemployable in a corporate setting hehe) it's on my upper back, and my mane gets on it and I was wondering... is that okay for it?
Why not? The best place for a tattoo is where you can cover them up with clothing if need be. The first thought that popped into my mind when seeing your photo was Pandora's box for some reason and then that song by the Doors about breaking through to the other side. Tat looks cool. thanks for sharing.
PS The tattoo does not look in anyway gay. haha!
Duncan
I dunno, I'm pretty sure my tattoo likes to go out and have sex with other tattoos of the same sex, lol.
Why would your tattoo want to do that when it's stuck on you instead? haha!
i should have become a psephologist, this board could be a springboard for some enterprising person writing a thesis on aberrant behavior. and that was not directed at you Duncan.everyone has problems.James/Tampa,Fl
I believe the word you're looking for is 'psychologist.'
From reading your post , it sounds possible that you may suffer from a passive aggressive personality disorder, im not saying that out of hand, i have the same trait. its interesting it only took me 51 years to figure it out.im am being very sincere. look up passive aggressive on Wikipedia and you will see if the shoe fits. sincerely James/Tampa,Fl
Thank you for the concern, but I was making a joke about my long hair, nose ring, and now tattoo (as well as the way I dress) I'm freaky looking for personal expression reasons, and I work in a profession that allows (or even encourages) freaky looking. I'm a BDSM educator (a job I'm good at, and immensely enjoy), and I've been in a wonderful relationship for the past four years, I'm pretty happy relationally and professionally, but I do appreciate your thoughts.
One person's 'freaky looking' is another person's 'beautiful.' :)
People shouldn't play psychologists on the internet. The poster was engaging in wordplay he was intentionally being facetious. I thought the corporate comment rather funny, he was indicating that he wasn't aspiring to be a corporate drone, but saying that with a bit of sarcasm, as the hair and tat are part of the goal. I see no personality issue here, just a dedicated non-conformist, which many longhairs are. The problem with the written word, is it can be difficult to determine the intent of the poster. I do believe the poster was intending to use a bit of humor.
That's a cool and very simple tattoo.I recall a guy here who sports a little kitty cat on his lower back.Very basic but cool just the same:)To date I am tattoo free and don't have any plans to get one mostly because I have no idea what I'd get.One thing I don't like about some tats I've seen is when they appear to be just a blend of ink probably due to old age? Can't quite make out what they are supposed to be.Do tats bleed out as they age I don't know.I mostly observed this on older men.Anyway congrats on yours and wear it proudly my friend.Cheers
Mark
They don't "bleed out" but they will spread, if you will, for example lines will become a bit wider and less crisp. This has to do with many factors such as the tattoo, and how well it was made. Also, age of course is a factor as the elasticity in our skin goes, the tattoo will change as a result. Also, elemental damage is another thing, which is why it is necessary for people to wear sunblock if they have tattoos if they want them to look good as long as possible.
Ziggy
Hi Ziggy,
Thanks for clearing up some of my concerns about aging tattoos.I've seem many older men who's tats may have looked good when new but now they are just a bluish blur.Yea,you can make them out on close inspection but at a distance they aren't that impressive compared to what I've seen on younger guys.I'm sure tat technology has improved over the years so maybe, just maybe I would consider one.Cheers
Mark
Hi Mark, Tattoos in the past have had a tendency to spread or 'bleed' due to older methods. If you go to a good artist that doesn't butcher you and rem the ink in to deep then all should be fine. This is one that I have, its very fine linework, and was carefully done by a good artist.
cheers buddy
Dave
Nice tat :)
Thanks :)
was it completely done free hand without a pattern? James / Tampa,Fl
Hi James, yes freehand, I didn't want anything from a tattoo book. cheers
Well its nice line work for a freehand tat. thanks for the response
James/Tampa,Fl
Thanks for the info Dave and the pic of your tat:)That's how I'd want one to remain on me.Good color, sharp lines even after having been done many years ago.I've had moments of contemplating having one but just need that push to actually do it.Also I wouldn't know who's a good artist and who's not.Sounds like a word of mouth decision.Otherwise hope all is well with you Davieee:)Cheers buddy!
Mark
Hey Markie-babes, you'll know when you are ready, and even then give it 6 months or so, to be sure, then enjoy it, Cheers my friend :)
Dave
That is quite nice indeed. Do you mind if I ask who your artist is? I've got some linework already myself and I'm considering getting more in the future.
Hi Jun, its a lady in the UK, are you in the Uk?
Alas, no. :/
Nice Opeth tattoo! They are my favorite band.
Thanks Devon, I'm seeing them live in November :)
I like the tattoo, and no your hair wont damage it, it will basically irritate it until it is fully healed. Just make sure you keep water off it for the most part, pat it dry, and let it heal. When I first got my tattoo I only had it in the water for the tiniest bit of time, patted it dry and simply let it heal itself. About the 4th or 5th into the healing process the top layer of skin flaked of, it looked like I was a shedding snake, but my tattoo was rather large, yours shouldn't shed like mine did. After about 2 weeks it was completely healed, and I put sunblock on it to protect the colour.
Also, and I am not trying to be facetious or rude, I saw your picture a couple days ago and assume you are a chick. But your name "MrD" and the haircut choice for the future, which I think rocks, has left me wondering. I think you are a chick, lol, with your beautifully high cheek bones and aqualine facial features. However, if you are a dude, I am gay myself, then you can rock the adrogenous, and I think that is hot too. I am more broad shouldered and masculine so I can't rock the androgenous lol. But like I said it is a look if you can pull it off, I mean I am a David Bowie fan and he looked awesome in a mullet and looks awesome now all masculine suit and tie.
Ziggy
Lol, I get that a lot. I am most certainly a dude, I'm an androgynous looking dude, but a dude nonetheless. Thank you for the compliments though.
OK well damn you rock that androgenous look plz :D, because you can certainly pull it off, lucky bastard.
Ziggy
Thank you. You should see me when I've actually made an effort for an event. I'm rather a peacock, lol.
Hmmmmm, now you've got me curious. If your brave, I'd like to see an example of that.Otherwise I'll just let my imagination run wild!LOL.Cheers
Mark
Well, heh... here's me getting ready for the local TNG munch
will not lie, AMAZING, ;P.
ziggy
WOW, I don't think my imagination would have run that wild!lol.
I don't know what else to say other than stunning:)Thanks for posting your example as I'm impressed.BTW what's the TNG munch?Cheers
Mark
TNG = the next genoration, it's a label for BDSM organizations that cater to the under 35 crowd. A munch is an organized event where a bunch of kinksters go out to a restaurant together to talk and hang out. Basically it's a meetup for young local people involved in BDSM. I work as a rigger (I design/engineer and execute elaborate bondage for websites and demonstrations) and instructor on BDSM, teaching people appropriate techniques for flogging, rope bondage, how to do aftercare, needle play, and things like erotic humiliation safely (and with regards to everyone's mental health). I also do a little bit of fetish modeling here and there.
That was very informative as I never would have guessed it in a million years!I sure never heard of such events when I was your age.Obviously a different time in history.Ha Ha.I guess another question is what BDSM stands for?You sound like a very interesting guy btw.Cheers
Mark
Bondage, domination, sadism, and masochism, heh. It's a surprisingly nice/nerdy scene. We don't take ourselves too seriously, and we teach each other how to do things for example, how to use pressure points to inflict pain without doing damage, and we talk toys (I bought a nice new flogger today, so I'm looking forward to bragging about that) and of course my girlfriend will come to. We met outside of the scene, but we're both involved in it.
-------------------
Well thanks again for your explanation as one of the things I enjoy about mlhh is what you can learn from its users. You certainly are an interesting guy with a cool look:)I don't ever recall anyone here quite like you so you are very unique my friend. So are you still thinking of doing that hairstyle you showed earlier?I wonder what your friends would think.Cheers
Mark
Thank you.
Yeah. I need to make an appointment, my girlfriend seems to like it, and I seem to like it... so I think it's a go (unless I decide to get bangs again... I'm kinda indecisive about things like that) and well they're used to me doing weird crap with my appearance (I often show up in a frock coat and top hat... and I've had blonde streaks and I once did a heavy straight bang which was cool)
Wow! I must say, I'm rather envious, both of your hair and your ability to pull off an androgynous style so well. A tip of my top hat to you, sir. :)
Thank you, and well I guess I'm just a pretty dude, lol.
-Mikael
Wow! You certainly can pull off the androgynous look very well! I can admire anyone with the guts to challenge the dominant gender stereotypes even if the look isn't something that I would personally aspire to.
I do remember seeing the great classic of The Rocky Horror Picture Show with Tim Curry in it which is a timeless classic and of the Diary of a Vampire both of which I think show that some guys can look pretty if they want too I guess.
With the BDSM thing that your into sounds really interesting and it looks like your found your trussed up niche in life. Whatever allows your imagination to run wild can only enrich the sex experience on different levels both the physical and the mental. The mind is a wonderful thing and is yet another erogenous zone.
Your an interesting fellow and again welcome to the board!
Duncan
Men dressing as women goes back much further than this. Japanese Yaro Kabuki theater, and ancient Roman plays come to mind. I'm sure there are many more examples as well.
And, yeah, Rocky Horror and Vampire Chronicles rock! :)
Are you a male or female and if you're a male why do you look like a woman? James/Tampa,Fl
Well... that was impolite. I'm a man, and I don't particularly think I look like a woman, not that there's anything wrong with looking like a woman (though frankly, what does a woman look like? Social constructs about how men and women are supposed to look pretty fucked up to begin with).
In any case, dude, you need to seriously back the hell off. I'm not an easy guy to piss off, but repeatedly being this much of a homophobic, gender and body policing jerk is starting to really get on my nerves.
It's really starting to sound like you have some serious issues with your own masculinity to work out. I'm comfortable enough with mine to have long hair, and yeah sometimes I wear makeup, and no this doesn't effect my masculinity. In fact when I do things that are traditionally feminine without discomfort or shame, because I want to, I'm reenforcing my masculinity. I'm not some insecure little weasel who worries that lipstick will make his junk fall off. You're the one with the issues around masculinity, buddy, not me.
Well Said!

James,I know we've been down this road before but you say these things, ultimately apologizing for your comments, then you do it again.I can understand you not agreeing with the activities of some guys but really, are they harming you?I actually enjoy the diversity of our users here as I learn new things.I beginning to feel you are intolerate to anyone different from what you think a man should be.Cheers and keep smiling:)
Mark
Something that's pretty much taught in every school in the nation now-a-days is being more accepting of others. Although that was something that wasn't really reinforced for some of us of the later years, I think that's something that should really be taken to heart for everyone.....
Otherwise, you would have had me fooled, TheGrandMrD - not too many guys can pull off such a switcheroo :o ... nice picture :D !
Heh, I guess that you can't say that you don't learn something new everyday ^_~ (for the posts below). Thank you for sharing :) !
If this question is asked sincerely, then a sincere answer is in order:
There are people who are born "completely" male, meaning they are genetically XY, have primary and secondary sexual charistics of a male, physically look male, and identify as being male. Same for people who are born "completely" female (XX). Then there are people who do not fit into either the "completely male" or "completely female" mold. Some people are born intersexed, meaning they have both male and female reproductive anatomy. Some people are born genetically XXY or XYY (that is the simplist example, it gets more technical and complicated). Some people are born male but identify as female, and vise versa. The list goes on. If you are honestly interested, look up "intersexed," "transgendered," "transsexual," "XXY," and "XYY," to start with. You will no doubt find links to other information.
If Mikael - or any other man - wants to express himself by wearing "female" accoutrements, I see no reason why he shouldn't; it is not harmful to anyone in any way.
---------------------------------------------------
If this question is meant derogatorily, there is no place for it on this board. This is a community of long haired men who come for acceptance, encouragement, sharing and learning, friendship, and expression of true self. You do not have to like, understand, or agree with the things that other people say or do - as long as they are not hurting anyone or anything - but you do need to respect others as fellow human beings. "Do onto others as you would have others do onto you." If you want to be treated with respect, you need to show respect.
Are you aware that for many centuries, the roles of women in theater were acted by men? Shakespeare and Moliere are perhaps two of the best-known playwrights, who wrote plays in a time in which this was common. Even today, there are theater troupes who are all male, performing the plays of the two above-mentioned playwrights. Pelican Bay prison has one of these, known as Shakespeare in the SHU, this was featured on MSNBC's Lockup.
There are men who are female impersonator's, they often impersonate a celebrity. And some engage in role-playing and/or experimenting with makeup. Using makeup isn't an exclusively female thing. One has to only look at Boy George and Marilyn Manson, or David Bowie many years ago. Ironically, Boy George honed his makeup skills working for a Shakespearean theater troupe.
Obviously, TheGrandMrD was most likely attending an event, where role-playing is a given. He stated that he made an effort for an event, in the part of this thread where androgyny was discussed. Your question was a bit insensitive, as in an earlier thread TheGrandMrD expressed a bit of frustration with others mistaking his gender. There is a lot of diversity on this forum as well, please try to be respectful of that.
It looks to me like you could have quite a career as a Female Impersonator if you desired. ;-) I've met a few drag queens who didn't look so good! LOL Admittedly our rather rigid ideas of gender roles makes your choice of makeup come off as "Female" rather than neutral or Male. It's certainly a look that will mess with people's heads about what it means to be male or female. :-) Thanks for sharing!

That's a hot look! And, I am straight! Bangs may make it hotter. Do what you want--you can carry it off!!
I second what Carl, Mark, Jun, Duncan, and Dale said! :)
P.S. I knew there was a reason I love Star Trek - hee hee! :)
As far as I am concerned, I think folk can express themselves in any way whatsoever providing no harm/offence is implied to others, I think you look great dude!.....the look suits you and I bet you get a lot of positive comments for it.
It is empowering for me to see others break with convention in any way, and certainly helps me dispell any stereotypical comments from others in my journey!
Thanks for the update bro and keep 'em coming.......scott
Thanks, man. I appreciate it. I deal with close minded B.S. I find the trick is to just sort of relax in your masculinity and identity, you're you and no one can change that. I then make sure to look down at whoever's hassling me, standing legs apart (essentially assuming the ape "threat" stance) and they usually back down... I'm not terribly physically imposing, but it works well enough because I swagger around like I'm the baddest mofo in town
oviding no harm/offence is implied to others, I think you look great dude!.....the look suits you and I bet you get a lot of positive comments for it.
excellent advice re: the symian posture retort!.......i may well use that in the future. :)
Cheers dude
scott
ps...dont grow up....grow down instead!
In an earlier thread, you were asking, "What To Do About Mistaken Gender"? Well, at least you are taking advantage of your androgyny for the fun of it. I dare say there were probably curious men and jealous women attending your event; do you do your own face-up, or did you have help putting the cosmetics on? Interesting that you used the word "peacock", since it is the male that is the colorful one of the species, much prettier that the female. Even Nature plays with androgyny.
During the early stages of healing a tattoo the most important thing is to keep it clean and to avoid any rubbing or scratching of the skin. If that happens while it's still raw or when the first scabs are forming it could lead to some of the color falling out. If the hair is rubbing on the tattoo or feeling itchy on it, you might want to cover the area with a light bandage until it heals more, just to be on the safe side.
