I think it is time we celebrated one of the most prominent of British longhairs.
Bob Flowerdew is an organic gardener, appears on BBC TV and radio, and has a long braid.

Yes, we see him a lot here in the UK and what an fantastic name for a gardener!
Yes indeed - an inspiration
Yes, I own one of his books, having purchased it a long time ago in a used book store here in California (a paperback book on Companion Gardening) -- I LOVE his gardening style and emphasis on natural pest control without having to resort to chemicals in the garden.
He's been an inspiration to me for years in many ways, even though I have never seen his TV show (because I live in the US, rather than in the UK where he is better-known).
I worked a total of 15 years in professional landscaping and maintenance gardening; but my knees started gradually giving out on me -- so what gardening I do nowadays is mostly just for fun. Four years ago I planted a rose garden on the property of where I cook (at a small private nursing home here in Northern CA), designing it in a way that included many of the principles I learned from reading his book. I never spray any chemicals, and have a lot of other beautiful companion plants like Nepeta, Lavender, Rosemary, Digitalis, Clematis, Thymes, and a variety of other ground covers and perennials growing with the roses. Thanks to his excellent suggestions for how to garden organically, I couldn't be happier with that garden, which I still maintain 4 years later.
To me, the fact that this man has long hair is just icing on the cake (LOL)!!
Thanks for posting this, bte!
