I was told shampooing every day is bad due to it removing natural oils, does the same apply to conditioning? will conditioning strip away natural oils, or does this just apply to shampooing?
Hi Isaac, Washing and conditioning routines vary from person to person and depend on hair type, personal preferences, products used etc. Over conditioning and shampooing can, in my opinion, strip natural oils from the hair. There is a bit of a move to water only washing between shampoos, which can encourage the natural oils. Also using shampoos without sulphates or too many chemicals can help. But it's very much trial and error and what's best for you. Good luck, Ian
I must say that I agree with Ian 100%. I tried all different variations of shampoos, conditioners, oils, etc. before I found what I feel is best for my hair. What works for me may not work for you.
Would like to know also.
I can't seem to get off using shampoo. The best I can do is skip shampooing one or two days and use just conditioner alone on the days I don't use shampoo.
So how bad is just conditioner for your hair ?
Hello Isaac,
I have to admit I'm one of the guys on this board who pretty much leaves his hair alone to do its thing. I only wash and condition my hair on average every five days or so. Really, it depends on how oily your hair gets by itself. My scalp is naturally very dry, and rarely gets oily, even in summer. I wouldn't recommend shampooing every day execpt for the most greasy of scalps, you might even dry up your scalp and it could become quite itchy. Some guys do what they call a co-wash. They just wash their hair with conditioner, this helps keep moisture in you hair from day to day. However, if you already have naturally oily scalp, you shouldn't need to do this.
Take care,
Neil.
