Hey Guys!
I've been lurking on this site for a couple weeks, and decided to post a couple of questions.I love this board and I've learned a lot here.
Except for a couple of good friends, everyone is always telling me how much better I will look with short hair, and that I should cut it. Like many guys here, I feel like having long hair (eventually!) expresses something important about me, and who I am. It's really encouraging to read the supportive postings on this forum, by guys who face the same type of negative comments, but don't let that discourage them. It's just great to just read stuff here from guys who love their long hair!
I've been growing my hair for about 8 months from a very short style, and had a trim around 4 months ago. My hair grows pretty slow, it's about 4 inches long now. My hair is very tricky - it's very fine and a bit thin, especially at the crown. I do enjoy it though, and I think it will look good when it's shoulder length, my goal at this point.
I've just reached the length where I'm learning how much work it will be caring for longer hair! I'm beginning with good habits now, to grow it as healthy and long as I can.
I'm wondering if anyone here swims regularly, and how that affects your hair care. I live in Miami near the ocean and I'm in the water every day. I don't wear rubber swim caps because they're gross, and tight, and rip your hair when you use them. Is there any alternative to keep your hair dry when swimming? I want to avoid blow dryers as much as I can.
I wash my hair with water only, and use shampoo only 2 or 3 times a week, sometimes just conditioner. I'm a little worried about when my hair get's longer, because its fine. Is it good to wrap your hair up when you go in the ocean?
Also - what do you guys do with your hair when you go to sleep?
Is it better to leave it loose or tie it up to prevent damage.
Thanks!!
I think your current routine will do just fine. My hair is a few inches past shoulder lenght, and when i used to swim (once a week, though) i would just wash my hair with conditioner afterwards (i shampoo 3 times a week) and my hair is just super. I also have relatively fine hairs, but luckily i have ALOT of them :)
Thanks Abstrakt, regular conditioning seems like it will help minimize dryness, and damage from constant exposure to water in my daily swim. I guess a swim cap will solve the problem, but it feels awful to wear those things, not to mention looking pretty goofy!!
Peace : )
Your hair looks good now, and soon it will look great I beleive long hair will looks great on you, you have what looks like straight with some curl to it. Good luck in your long hair journey.

Thanks for your encouragement, Tom, I think it will take a long time to grow, but it's my dream to have long hair, and I'm determined not to cut it!
High!
You will look gorgeous in really long hair... especially when you KEEP THE MOUSTACHE, which then would make you a true Swamp Gypsy!
See you in Khyberspace!

thanks dee, and thanks yadgar! it's great to have found this little community of guys who help each other with their long hair goals!

No, that wasn't meant in any derogatory or ridiculing way - to me, a "swamp gypsy" is a long-haired moustached man (not necessarily an ethnic Gypsy - are you? "zingaro21" sounds that way) with a playful, "artsy", sensual attitude towards life, somewhat bohemian, but also intimately in touch in nature... do you like swimming in the open?
To take it short, a "swamp gypsy" is rather a guitarist than a keyboarder, rather improvising than constructing, rather slim than obese, rather a traveller than a bookman...
See you in Khyberspace!

yadgar, no offense taken at all, i thought it was funny. thanks for your thoughts.
Hey man,
Do whatever you want to do with your hair...I still get slack from ppl that I would look so much better with shorter hair--However, I'm liking my longer hair and don't want to cut it, even though at times I do feel tempted...Therefore, I follow the two week rule that some guys on this site recommend...Good-luck with your growth! keep it growing!!
