Yo, guys. There's some things I want to know. What is oil, how do you oil hair, and, what are your reccomendations? I have heard the same thing about oiling long hair: that it's phenomonal for it's health and it feels great. If anyone can respond, it would very appreciated.

Hi Corvus,
I use Vatika Coconut Oil, available from most Indian/Health stores and Amazon etc and it's fairly cheap! I usually massage it into by scalp, hair shafts and ends the night before I'm going to wash my hair. I put an old towel on the pillow before going to bed to absorb any excess oil. The oil in the bottle solidifies, so before use, I pop the bottle in a mug of hot water to liquify - although you may not need to do this in a hot climate. Good luck, Ian
Ian, i read that the melting point of coconut oil from the solid to liquid is around 74 degrees Fahrenheit, living in very warm climate like Florida i keep refrigerated to keep it solid, when i take it from the jar it almost immediately melts in my hand being that our normal body temperatures are 98.6 degrees Fahrenheit.

Corvus,
I get 365 brand virgin coconut oil at Whole foods for 6.99 in a little mayonaise type jar. It has to be virgin, otherwise the goodness is processed out, and it's processed with bleach, etc.
It should be a food oil. Whatever you put on yourself goes into your body, and so you shouldn't use anything on yourself that you couldn't almost eat at least.
There's many different food oils, all with different characteristics. You could do google searches about natural hair oil.
I warm the coconut oil by holding it in my palms against my chest in the shower so the water collects around the jar.
I slather it all over myself AFTER I'm done washing, and leave it on a few days.
I put some on my scalp, up around my hairline while leaning forward, and down the hair a little, then comb it with my wooden comb with the hot water running over it before I put any oil on the rest of myself. The hot water makes it penetrate to the scalp, and distributes it evenly. Then I comb it back, eventually, and put it up so it's out of the way, so I can oil the rest of myself. I like to use it freely, as it keeps it from being all flyaway around my face, like a gel, and protects my hair like a barrier from the dust of my construction work.
Coconut oil penetrates and makes the hair thicker & stronger. Coconut oil has shown evidence of destroying herpes too. It completely cured my athletes foot. Nothing else ever did, but I never saw a doctor about it. It's antibacterial and antifungal. I love how it tastes & smells.
Have fun.
