She thinks Taylor Pugh should get a haircut and his parents are the problem
tell her what you guys really think!
jfloyd@dallasnews.com
NOTE: if you look at her pic you will notice she has long hair herself. double standards if you ask me.
Jacquielynn Floyd/Columnist thinks boys should comply with short hair rules!
I can't get the link to come up, but I'll keep trying. I can't stand hypocricy.
Sorry, you can't access the site, but here is what she actually wrote in her little "column". Hairball will confirm this since he read it.

Earth to kid: Get a haircut! Seriously, I don't know whether little Taylor Pugh's parents are just a-lovin' their exciting showdown with The Man (aka the Mesquite school board), or whether these parents are actually so zonked out that they're letting a four-year-old run the family.
Either way, the headline says it all: "Parents reject compromise on hair". They've got 101 excuses on why they can't accept any form of compromise, including braiding the kid's hair to meet specified length requirements. "He likes his hair long" and "He cries when we braid it" are so absurd as to make me wonder about this couple's competence as parents.
Some kids like to eat insects. Some kids like to strip naked at the grocery store. These ridiculous people are trying everybody's patience, and it's time for the school district to stop letting them do it.
"
anyway, I think y`all need to email this idiot and tell her what you actually think.
here is her email address from the site:
jfloyd@dallasnews.com
maybe suggest she cut her long hair off since she seems so pro-short hair for males.
I believe in equal rights btw. she apparently does not.
I would love to see her face if her employer requested that she get a "more professional, albeit short" style. lol
I finally got the site to open and got an email sent. My first email was met with a claim that she didn't even remember writing it, then later claims she likes long hair on men!!! Here's the entire thread. I put the messages in order so you can read from the top down. I even managed to include a plug for MLHH :-)

What business is it of yours to discriminate about how long someone elses hair is, especially when you have long hair?
Are you a hypocrite or just a sexist?

Your article about the boy in Mesquite, TX. If you don't care enough to even remember, then maybe you shouldn't be writing such prejudiced articles.

Ah, the four-year-old. That was about 150 columns ago - I needed a point of reference to recall. Why has this come to your attention just now?
Actually, I have a weakness for long-haired men. My husband's hair is longer than mine. My point, however, was that these parents needed to accept the fact that the school has guidelines, just as some schools require uniforms and others have strict dress codes. If they don't like the rules, they need to lobby to change them - or enroll their child in a private school where the mores are more to their liking. And, finally, I thought it absurd for them to be letting a 4-year-old call the shots about "expressing himself" - kids that young are still in the early stages of development, and have limited decision-making capabilities. They require attention, love and guidance - otherwise, they'd stay up all night and eat cookies for supper.
Best,
JF

Rules and regulations are fine, and usually a good idea, until they cross the line of prejudice. Do they make the girls cut their hair too? If not, they're guilty of sexism. It looks more like the parents standing up to establishment absolutism than a 4 year old "calling the shots." They may not be good at keeping their reasons continuous or dealing with the public (I wonder how much of that is influenced by biased media), but that doesn't make them wrong for sticking up for their kid that's being mistreated. You say they should lobby to change the rules, but vilify them for doing just that, and suggest they give up just to make others happy. Sounds like quite a catch-22.
Although I don't agree with some of their statements or methods, I personally commend these parents for standing their ground and not giving in to bigotry just because some people are tired of hearing about it.
I did not know your article was as old as you say. It was just referenced on mlhh.org in response to an update on the story.

That woman is an imbecile and a hypocrite. on one hand she claims she LOVES long hair on Men(references her husbands long hair) and on the other she is for mandated "hair" codes which are different for boys than girls.
you made her look stupid though. thanks for sharing this with us.
people should be able to wear their hair the way they want, Long OR short and this pertains to both genders.
the U.S. is supposed to be about Freedom of choice!
incidentally, did you see the "CHECK IT OUT!" post yet?
apparently the cops treat long hair males worse than they do in Texas.
while they brought back mandated "hair" codes in this state, they are still beating up on them in Florida. the guy actually had bad experiences and wrote about it in his little song. now I can understand why the guy down in Tampa is so upset.
to my knowledge this has not been a common occurrence in Texas for at least 40 years, but who knows. maybe that will be the next phase. coerce all young men with long hair into submitting to short haircuts or risk getting beat up by cops.
