Right now we have Irene, a cat. 1 hurricane, on its way to the Tri-state area (NJ, NY and CT). I am bringing everything of value up from basement - I dismantled the model railroad layout and I got all the cases with books and clothes up in the house. I am now shutting down my servers so that I can bring them up. My wife and kids are away, out of the path of the storm. I got several days' worth of supplies - non-perishable foods, water, batteries for flashlights, etc. so that I can ride out the storm. My house is not far from the Raritan river and the basement was flooded 12 years ago when the tropical storm Floyd passed through NJ on a track quite similar to Irene's.

Hope everyone up there comes through safely and with minimal damage. Let us know how it went.
Here in So Md the he rain is dying down now at 2 am (Saturday night going into Sunday morning), but it's still very windy. We have several branches down, but nothing worse.
Guess what? I did nothing to prepare for Irene and I am glad! I took my umbrella out last night to go for a walk to the pizzeria. This Irene is nothing but a bunch of rain. I feel bad for the millions of suckers in New York who left their dwellings due to the media's silly scare tactics. In New York the word "hurricane" means the same thing as alice in wonderland. Our hurricanes (tropical storms) never amount to much. If you want to prepare for a hurricane in New York, you go to the nearest market, buy a six pack, watch it rain and take in the nice aroma of the air.
I agree as hurricanes, by the time they reach NY/NJ, are just big rain storms. You have to chuckle at the ridiculous news coverage as they just keep repeating themselves, show the same video of a flood because there is nothing else to show, and keep telling us to stay indoors while its OK for them to stand in the rain.LOL.Oh well Home Depot loves it because look at all them generators they sold$$$$$$.Cheers

I always maintain that most reality is away from the mainstream sensationalist media. Anyone remember the infamous War of The Worlds broadcast by Orson Welles in 1938 and the mass panic that followed? Never allow others to think for you. F**K political correctness.
