I've attached a recent pic of our local MP (Portsmouth South) here in the UK.
Just curious ... People in the arts or entertainment often have long hair but it's less common in other fields. There's Richard Branson in the business world of course.
But how about politics? Do you know of any local or senior politicians in your country who have long(ish) hair? Mayors, congressmen, senators, etc.

Hi, Damon. Here in the states, I have yet to see any politicians at the federal level with long hair. It seems as though most of them want to look "neutral" to voters, possibly so they won't be pigeonholed, and conforming to short hair. Most of them appear to have very short hair.
On the other hand, I see many activists with long hair. The more I think about it, this contrast does seem symbolic of the rift between popular interest and Washington's interest.
Ah! Thanks, SoulSpin. That was exactly what I was wondering about - politicians in the USA. Here in the UK there are quite a few people in senior positions with long (or longish) hair and I was curious how that compared to other countries.
I've attached a pic of the Mayor of London. Not long but longish hair (it's his trademark). And I think there are a few MPs with longish hair too.
Yes, long hair does seem to be symbolic of rebel causes. I guess most politicians, even if they inwardly would like long hair, prefer to play safe.

I'm not into politics, but heard of some guy in an upper position here in Seattle, who rode his bike to meetings, showing up all sweaty! Perhaps not wearing deodorant! They said he was a real hippie! Some just loved him, others just hated him, but I heard he was good, and probably had long hair too - so many people here do.
That's good to hear. I like *natural* people - even without deodorant!
I gather the attitude to long hair is far more open on the West Coast than in some other parts of the USA. I guess regional variations apply to all countries. Generally, urban and/or artsy areas tend to be more relaxed in that respect.
