Still growing. It's finally long enough (barely) up front to reach into a low ponytail. I'm sure it will thicken up once it gets longer and all of the hair contributes to the volume of the tail itself, but for now some of it is only barely to the tie. I'm a bit self-conscious because I've always kept it loose until now, but I have been bumming too long and need to look for some kind of work soon.
I'm a low-expenses, low-work kind of guy, so nothing career or specialized (don't have the skills or experience anyway). I'll take almost any kind of job I can get, but I figure that it'd probably be a good idea to start tying it all the same. I also did my best to shave in the back around my neck (NOT an undercut), I had a thick bush of short, side-burn like hair going back there, in a wide pattern (not a good look). I know it's not necessary for some guys to shave back there but, for me it is! Take my word on it.
Anyway, just wondering what you guys think, seeing as you're the experts. I'll try and get a new loose pic in sometime when it's not quite so oily. Have a good one!
The flash from my camera kind of lightened it a bit but it's normally dark brown.
Despite flash and all, the ponytail is looking great! Takes alot of patience, but the determination says much about the inner strength of the person.
If you decide you want to go longer, you will find that the ponytail will become more and more straight the longer it gets.
Justin~
Thanks Justin! I'm just going to let it grow for now. I am finding that the longer it gets the more I like it and the easier it is to handle.
At the start of this year it was just barely at my shoulders and was doing this really strange up-turned curl at the ends to either side of my head that I absolutely *hated*. My hair is not curly, it's straight, but at that specific length it was behaving very strangely. The length and weight of my hair is now naturally pulling it down for the most part, for which I am deeply thankful. I eagerly await further length and further straightening out. :)

I would like to grow to about that length and see how it goes. My hair is fairly straight (really only poofs out because it's still a little short as you mentioned), but I'm confident it would straighten out more like Mr. Perry's if I let it get that long. I also look forward to being able to toss it behind my shoulders while loose without it popping back up front. Anyway, thanks for responding and for the support!
I apologize for the double-post, I just realized that my previous comment might be taken the wrong way and I didn't mean it that way! I think that long curly hair is awesome, I didn't mean curly hair texture, just the way it was bobbing up at that specific length (I think it was deflecting off my shoulders or something, haha). I made up a crude illustration in MS Paint just now to show what I'm talking about, with a comparison to how it is now (more or less). Happy trails.
Yup, I know EXACTLY what you mean. I had precisely the same problem when my hair first touched my shoulders. It looked like a woman's hairstyle from the 1950s. But now after a few months it's past my shoulders and the extra weight/length pulls it down straight (more or less). Much better!
Damon
I also know exactly what you mean. I've been dealing with the curly haired version of the "deflecting off my shoulders" stage for the most of this year.
I wouldn't be too worried about people getting offended by your post if I were you. From what I've seen, unless you start attacking specific members or telling people to get a haircut, it's really hard to get on their bad sides.
Yes! The longer the easier. The short ponytail I think is the most taxing wait of all when growing long hair. But, no other way to do it then to wait. But a light at the end of the tunnel for you and before you know it I am most confident you will be VERY happy with the results. Just hang in there. :-)

I am impressed, that is a nice thick tail. It looks so perfect, you should not have any problem with most employers.
Scott
That's a great looking tail already, a few more months and it will be amazing. Fantastic shine and healthy looking - well done and good luck on your journey. Ian
Hi AnotherSchmoe,
Your ponytail really does look good, and has excellent thickness as well. I look forward to your future progress!
Keep it growing,
David
You have very healthy looking hair, and the tail is awesome!!! And everyone goes through that "curls at the bottom" awkward stage. You are passed that, and now it looks great!!! :)
Nice tail!!!!

Hello friend,
You've got the beginnings of some great long hair there friend. When I started growing my hair (waaaay back in the day) I always wished I had hair similar to yours, rather than the super-curly mess I've got. As far as the job finding is concerned, from another bloke, I'd say you look pretty smart, man. You really don't look like a bum at all :)
Keep it growing mate,
Take care,
Neil.
Hey there, I think both you front and back pics look fantastic:)I can't see why any potential employer would ob ject to your hair unless he's a real bastard.LOL.If that's the case I'd go elsewhere.Since you are not looking to work in a particular profession you have many options where you can be employed and have longhair.I'm sure you will find something but in the meantime just enjoy you beautiful hair my friend:)Cheers
Mark
It's so beautiful! ;p I like how it's in different lengths. That makes it more interesting. I understand how it feels wierd to do it differently. I think it looks very nice, even professional, but that's the West coast in me talking! My supervisor refers to ' hair pulled back into a neat ponytail' as part of looking neat for a job assignment. I work for a temp service called Madden Industrial Craftsmen Inc. You should look into temp services. I make between $11 and $15/hr, between two days a week to full weeks. Some temp jobs can lead to full time positions, and you get started right away, cause everyone needs some extra help sometimes.
Excellent, you have good hair to work with by the look of it, thats really fitting in nicely into the hair tie and it looks really good on you, both front and back.
cheers Dave
Hi there AnotherSchmoe,
I believe this is the first pic I've ever seen of you (my apologies if you posted pics of yourself in the past, in which case I just don't remember). In any case, your ponytail looks hands-down TERRIFIC!!! No need to feel self-conscious about it whatsoever -- it's just a new look for you, so understandable it may take a little getting used to (I felt the same when I experienced my first ponytail back in the '90s).
Re. looking for work, there's nothing wrong with being, "a low-expenses, low-work kind of guy"; but in today's bad economy, just make sure that whatever job interviews you go on you try to sound as passionate and enthusiastic about the type of work you're applying for as possible. I've switched career directions myself several times throughout my lifetime; but one thing for certain that I can never complain about is that I've never been bored with whatever I've done for a living... it's always felt like a bit of an "adventure!"
To me, your ponytail looks GREAT -- including the fact that you look very "presentable" for going out looking for work that way.... Good luck, and my best to you!!

PS - Years ago I took a 4-day workshop put on by my local EDD (Employment Development Department) that I found very helpful in giving me good guidance at the time. If you have something like that in your area near to where you live, you may want to look into it, as it's usually free to attend.
You've got some really great looking hair, you obviously take good care to maintain it properly. You should be very proud of the amount of length you've achieved so far, and it's only going to get better as it grows longer. I also think it's a good idea to shave the back of the neck, as it definitely does look a lot neater. Best wishes on landing a job that you enjoy and that pays well. I don't think the length of your hair should be a problem, because it's neat and clean and looks great on you.
Hi !
I have to say you have a great appearance. Long hair tied in a tail suits you very well, and I see no reason why you couldn't get a job, based on your appearance !
Good luck in growing your mane ;-)
Vivien.
Oily??? It's amazing! The shine, thickness... all of it! My 13 year old brother has a head of hair that looks almost identical to yours, but he's almost at waist length. Keep up the good job, when it's longer it will be fantastic, be sure even girls will envy your mane! I remember that once a lot of girls started to talk about my brother's hair when we walked in a restaurant in a trip. Soon, you will be like that as well! May it be the beginning of your hair journey.
Big Hug.
The tail look great on you! I know what you mean at first I was the same I felt self-conscious of my ponytails, now I wear my hair many different ways. Ponytail, Bun,Braid, High ponytail and messy bun.
