sorry to have to write this, I am a newcomer to this site, visitng this site for the express reason of GROWING HAIR!....I have recently posted 3 picures of my 3 month progress report and have had 2 comments, both very supportive.
Meanwhile there are long threads regarding tat for tat and negative non-hair related comments.
Obviousley everyone has opinions but for heaven's sake, surely there are more people like myself looking for constructive advice, feedback and support in what is for me a life changing decisions.
Please don't think I am desperate for massive support, ...but if not on this MENS LONG HAIR HYPERBOARD, then where???
Sorry for this outburst but if I had visited this board in the last 4 days then I would never have co,e back....I know this is the place for support and advice, it just seems to have moved off subject.

I agree. And I have had the same thing cross my mind, too. If a visitor came across this site recently hoping for support on the subject matter this board is supposed to give, nine times out of ten, they would turn away. I, myself, have thought of leaving because of that idea.
You're doing great, Scott. Keep hanging in there.
Steve
I would say yes this is still very much the MLHH, it is only the past few days that a hot sticky subject had arrose, which can easily incite angry comments. I check after and yes there are still some posts concerning the subject, but give a few days to just phase itself out. I have posted pics as well and would get only a few comments it isn't a big deal. We all support you on your hair growth journey. But realize you are at the inch and a half stage, just keep it clean and growing and you will do well, you have a full head of hair. Once it gets longer you can ask for more hair care advice based upon your hair type, but at this stage of the game it is merely time to let it grow and be free. Just like most hot button subjects (religion, politics, etc) people will chime in and not always in agreement.

I haven't been on here too long so yet to see the "trends" in topic, but good to know that the subject in question always makes way to the Hyperboard's inception mandate.
Ta for the support......growing it as fast as I can! :)

Very well said Ziggy! For this place to be a community, there have to be some off-topic posts be they only tangentially so or whether they occasionally are completely not about hair. People who just joined are not allowed to post such threads but for others who have been around a while, it allows the rest of us to get to know them in a more well-rounded way.
What a boring place it would be if there was no room for differing opinions! We all should be mature enough to realize that not everyone will agree with us on all issues but that doesn't mean that these subjects can never be touched upon.
I first visited this site 12 years ago in 1999. Long hair has never been far removed as the main topic and that hasn't changed. Let's not be in a hurry to get offended if other issues temporarily get discussed. Religious opposition was a HUGE issue for me to overcome for me to complete my journey to becoming a longhair. I'm thankful that my posts on the subject weren't overmoderated at the time. I had to get some stuff out. It was a process but I emerged from the chrysalis and each step along the way was important.
point taken, just as I am allowed to express my opinions too.....I have made no personal attacks on anybody merely expressed my opinion.
Also.....I was an intelligent individual working for the British Civil Service before I joined this site.....and therefore totally dismiss any comments about length of time on here having any limitation on the nature of my hair-related comments!...what a silly thought that there could be a "right of passage" in this forum!

thanks for your comments, always nice to have a chinwag :)
Your posts are still on the board so, yes, there is not a problem with them.
I don't follow you. "Hair related" comments are allowed from old and new alike. Posting off-topic threads is reserved for members the community has come to know. You've been around a bit so this doesn't apply to you.
It is not a "silly" thought to require some time to get to know users before allowing off-topic threads to be posted by them. Call it a rite of passage if you will but it's a rule here:
19. Are posts on "off topic" subjects permitted?
Only from regular users. Such posts help us get to know each other better, so they serve a positive purpose in building our community. Off-topic posts from little-known people will be seen by users as spam posts so they are not allowed. Also, off topic threads may be removed if they overwhelm the general purpose of the board. Most threads at any given time must be on topic.
Yes and weren't you Stanley Bey or something like that back then?
I remember all the mental struggles you went through and the
various hair styles you used to try to make long hair look short.
LOL, yes, that was my chosen alias at the time. I perfected the hair helmet look with my long bangs slicked back with extra hold gel to conceal their length. I'm thankful those days are over!
Jason,
Just wanted to post this and say, "Thanks" for encouraging people here on board to chill and not be offended at certain things that come up. I really do appreciate the effort and just wanted to let you know that.
Cheers,
Steve
Thanks for the kind words, Steve. My best to you.
Hi Scott, you are correct in that there have been some hot topics of late, but these do make the board a more interesting place. If every post was "what shampoo should I use", or "how long does hair grow in six months from shaved", then it would not be so colourful - not that those questions aren't valid as they most certainly are, especially growing out for the first time, its an exciting journey for sure.
As moderators we monitor the hot topics and make sure they don't get out of hand, but at the same time we try to allow everyone their right to freedom of speech, if somebody steps out of line and isn't put straight by the board members we step in and either delete the posts or write to the offender.
Sometimes people can't always drop into the board every day so it takes time sometimes for comments on updates, but your hair is coming along really really well, and we are all here rooting for you :) and value your contributions to the community as we do with everybody.
Cheers Dave
Hi Scott,
I'm sorry your picture update got lost among that controversial thread that obviously was off topic. From time to time that will happen but thankfully the main focus here still is the support of men's longhair. Some newbies lurk the board for months before actually posting so they get the flavor of how the board operates and shouldn't be surprised when topics stray. But in the end it gets back on track to hair again:)So please be patient with us when this happens as its no reflection on you and your post. Also the more known you become here the more people feel comfortable responding to you.I've been a member here since 2005 so I've been around awhile:)Anyway I'm glad your on board and do enjoy the community here.Have a great day Scott and thanks for your update below as your longhair potential is high my friend.Cheers
Mark
but off topic distractions occasionally get in the way, dominating the board for a few days. What you have seen in the past few days is a worst case scenario with a lot of off topic posts. This one is the worst I have seen in a few years. 90% of the time, things aren't like that here. Do stick around, as we are the largest men's longhair discussion board as far as I know.
Scott (from Richmond California)
thanks Scott, it's good of you to clarify things better for me.
Scott from Nottingham
Hi Scott,
Others have already given you some excellent answers and explanations; but just thought I'd also add a few additional comments into the pot, to give you an even fuller picture...
First of all, I just replied to your recent update pics, below (although I admit that my reply was quite brief - LOL).
Secondly, for those of us that have been around here for quite awhile (I first came here to MLHH in Sept. of '03, right after I got my very first computer), we have seen a lot of guys come & go... especially, unfortunately, super-enthusiastic new guys who have not yet even reached what's called, "the awkward stage" of growing their hair out.
When you see a lot of guys all too quickly toss in the towel, so-to-speak -- especially once the going starts to get a little rough around the edges -- it starts to make cynics out of some of us... Not that this is a very good excuse for some of us regulars and long-timers to go off on a lot of off-topics rants (as yours truly is sheepishly raising his hand in acknowledging my most recent soap box sermon - LOL); but just explaining a little what it feels like from the other end of the spectrum.
Clear as mud? (LOL)
In any case, YES, this hyperboard is definitely still all about long hair -- whether it's about growing it or keeping it, we're glad to have you here, and happy to have you be a part of this community!
