I have been lurking a while and thought I would add a little input. I am in my mid 40s and used to have long hair in my younger days. I have been growing out my hair since around 2008 with the barest of trims in that time.I have been able to tie it all back in a ponytail for about 2 years. However, I am wondering lately if I have reached my max length- around shoulder blade length at furthest. Could this be possible?
Cheers all
PS- "Hairy Boy" was shouted at me from a moving vehicle, hence my name for here!
Good nickname, and welcome to the board.
I know some people who maxed out at collar length, so it's possible that you have reached terminal. The only way to know for sure is not to cut it for a few months. However, with hair that looks as good as yours, I wouldn't be disappointed if that's as long as it would grow.
From personal experience, hair growth goes in cycles; you have months when nothing much seems to happen, and then, suddenly it starts growing again. I thought I'd reached terminal at waist length, but my hair's now long enough to sit on.
Wow! I didn't know that was possible. I thought the very shortest terminal would be at least shoulder blade length.
I would've been VERY disappointed if mine hadn't grown longer than my collar!

Sorry, I meant to add that you're got awesome hair, Andy!
The hair looks good!
I would say that your hair is either about as long or slightly shorter than mine. Mine is thick and wavy, so when it's pulled straight it's about mid back, a little longer than shoulder blade. That makes it hard to tell how fast it's growing, but I am beginning to suspect I may be nearing terminal length. Like longhair Viking said, don't cut it anytime soon and see what happens.
Either way, you're a longhair!
I'm wondering about growth cycles too. I would love to get at least lower back length, but it may not be possible.
Peace.
Thanks for the welcome and the comments folks.
I don't see much point in trimming at this stage anyway-just being able to tie it all back is very useful, outdoors and for work etc. I remember going for a "trim" back in the 80s and winding up with a mullet. I had to immediately get a short back and sides.
I have attached a pre shave pic.

wild hair Andy...the style totally suits you dude!
Scott
Thanks man
That's what I like about long hair- option for a different look depending on your mood. I work in the cultural (museum)sector where they are officially tolerant of my look- so long as I'm reasonably tidy and tie the hair back I'm fine.
Andy You have beautiful hair love the length and color looks thick as well, I perfer hair hanging long and loose.
Tom(Hairboy)
Thanks for sharing and welcome along. Your hair reminds me of mine when I was about your age (many years ago!) and I wouldn't think you any where near terminal length yet. If you want longer, just avoid the trims. Best wishes, Ian
Many thanks for the kind welcome and comments.
I hope to check in regularly, and maybe raise a topic from time to time.

Greetings, HairyBoy. Your hair should be able to grow longer than it currently is. It looks about right for 3 years growth. With some patience, it will probably reach your lower back at least. That will probably take maybe 2 more years. I like the other photo with the beard. A beard and long hair go really well together.
Scott
Scott,
Thanks for that- I like to think I will have the patience, I've got this far.
As for beards, even a short one can give my bland potato face a bit of definition and character and I see it as an optional extra which can be grown back fairly quickly. It does however tend to add a few years!
PS-Your beard as seen in your avatar I believe used to be called an "Assyrian".

Hi Andy, welcome to the mlhh and congrats on delurking:)As another guy in his 40s I have to say your hair looks outstanding on you and its cool you are growing it long again. At least you had it long when you were younger so you do have a taste of the feel and all:)As for max length it hard to say.For me I haven't had a haircut since August of 2005 so you'd think by now my hair would be to my knees!lol. It appears its stuck at waist length which I will not complain about.Still I would love to experience ultra longhair so maybe my I'll get lucky and it will start growing more out of the blue:)Anyway a big WELCOME and stop back again soon my friend.Cheers
Mark
ps:I love the way you acquired you handle;)
Hi HairyBoy,
Welcome to the hyperboard, and I am glad that you decided to "de-lurk" and share your photos. You have an excellent head of hair, your length seems to be good for your growing time, and I am sure that you are good for at least a few more inches!
Keep it growing,
David
Looks good HairyBoy!!
You have a beautiful head of hair nice and long, thick looking as well
