In one of the most incredible moments of my life, my wife and I just found out the gender of our baby: it's a boy!!
He will have the privilege of wearing his hair however he wants. Of course, I hope I'm a good influence and he chooses long hair from the time he's able to make his own decisions about it.
It will be interesting to see what type of hair he has. My wife and I have similar hair color though I have hints of red that she doesn't. Mine is a bit more wavy as well.
Jason
Many congratulations - I am delighted for you both. I will look forward to seeing the young man with luxuriant hair but your decision to allow him to choose is one others should copy.
Duncan
Hi Jason, Fantastic news and congratulations to all three of you. Your Son will have a great life with amazing parents. Good luck, Ian
Congratulations, bigtime! My son is 20, getting ready to enter nursing school this month. It has been a time n my life I'll never, NEVER forget. Biggest blessing I could've received. I hope and pray all's well with the three of you. God bless!

Jason,
Congratulations to you and your wife. You have many wonderful days ahead of you. My children have been such a blessing to me. I can't imagine life without them. Keep us posted as to how things go.
Best to all of you,
Brian (beardedpiper)
Congratuations are not enough, However, they are in order. However he chooses, he will have the benefit of you and your wife as parents.
Hi Jason,
What wonderful news, and a hearty congratulations to both you and Amanda! I hope all continues to go perfectly!
Congratulations,
David
Congratulations Jason. Judging by your intelligent and level headed comments on the board, you'll make a great dad. Have you guys decided on a name yet?
Agreed! And congratulations to you and your wife Jason.
Hi Jason and CONGRATULATIONS!
That is certainly fantastic news about a new addition coming into your life as well as Amanda's.I knew you mentioned either before you got married or shortly thereafter about wanting to have kids so your dreams are now being fulfilled.
Hopefully he will choose to follow in your footsteps, hair wise, and who knows maybe he'll be the future of this great board:)
Anyway that is so cool to hear and do you have an approximate date yet for his arrival? All the best to both of you my friend:)Cheers and have a cigar!
Mark
Can't see any hair in the sonogramme, LOL!
We let our son's hair grow when he was little, but my wife insisted he had a fringe so he could see where he was going, LOL! He decided to get a short spiky cut when he was about 8, but then around 12 decided to grow it back out. He's now 18 and still has long hair (but no fringe).
I'm glad he has chosen to have long hair, but I think it's important to let children decide for themselves.
AWE!! Congratulations Jason to you and your wife...may he be blessed with health and much love!
That is awesome Jason! Congratulations and best wishes for a wonderful family together.

Congratulations!
I gave my sons the choice to wear their hair however they want. They have all chosen short hair, but it's the style that's popular right now. They may eventually change their minds.

That is great news, Jason. First baby pictures, I presume? Hopefully he will grow up to be a longhair.

Thanks so much everyone! I appreciate all the supportive comments and the relating of experiences by other fathers. Universally from the parents I've talked to, they relate that having children was one of the most amazing experiences of their lives. TONS of work but well worth it! It's a bit intimidating but I'll take it one step at a time.
As for a name, we just made it official last night:
Rowan George
George is in honor of Amanda's dad.
He is due to arrive on February 2nd. Hopefully there will be no snowstorms around that date!
Jason, What great news that you guys are having a baby, that is so cool!!!
Whether your boy ends up deciding on becoming a longhair or not, the fact that you & your wife will be raising him to have his own choice in the matter is all that's really important... As a kid I was never allowed to have that choice (and I realize your history is similar to mine, if not even more difficult for you when you were young); so it is a joy to watch parents break that trend, and to see a child blossom into becoming their own person with freedom from unfair oppression.
A big CONGRATS to you & Amanda, Jason -- and thanks for sharing that cool photo, too!!
- Ken
Many thanks, Ken.
I agree that the most important thing is choice. Hopefully as a society we can come to respect the role of individuality in making a person feel whole. Rowan will grow up having experienced that.
Congrats, man!
Hi Jason, Congratulations to both you and Amanda on becoming new parents. I'm sure the pair of you will be fantastic parents and the baby boy would at least have a choice of whether he wants long hair or not. I'm very happy for the both of you and I hope the birth goes well in February.
Best wishes,
Duncan
Congrads Jason! I wish you and your wife the best! I checked out you blog, and I like it.

Congratulations Jason!! So exciting for a man to have a son! Many prayers and blessings to you, Amanda, and Rowan - before, during, and after his birth. I truely hope having a child will be a wonderful experience for your entire family. :)
Rowan is a great name. My son is named after both of his grandfathers also. :)
Thanks Laura. It's definitely taken on a whole new dimension now that I know the gender. That's cool that you also named your son in honor of both grandfathers.
Congratulations to you both! Whatever hair style he chooses i'm sure your wisdom will rub off on him.
Cheers Dave
