What ever happened to the days when every single musician that played in a Rock band had longer hair?
remember those days?
I'm always into hearing new emerging bands and recently, a friend of mine turned me on to a CD by some band that I did not know anything about and thought they sounded good so I decided to go see them perform. I had no idea what they looked like until I went to their gig.
I was really disappointed to find out that the only member in the entire band that had long hair was the girl who played in the band. all the guys had very short hair.
I don't judge a band's sound by their hair length, but it sure would be nice to see some long haired guys playing in bands more often again!
incidentally, the band`s name was Stellastarr.
If you are referring to 1970's and 1980's American rock musicians, yes I remember many (but not all - hee hee hee) of those days! :) In the 80's, MTV was new - and perhaps had a lot to do with the "hair band" look becoming practically universal. Youth wanting to emmulate their favorite rock bands were probably influenced quite a bit by the barrage of long haired musicians on MTV (and also by the way they dressed). But, as frequently happens, the generation that followed wanted to be 'different' than their parents. It always seems to happen like that, hence trends being cyclic.
I suspect that some of the musicians from the 80's probably grew long hair because it was the style, was the way they were "expected" to look. It's OK for a guy to grow his hair out to see if he likes it or not - but not every guy likes his hair long (I know - gasp!!!!). The *true* longhairs will keep their hair long, no matter what the style. :)
Also, if a musician/band is not making a substantial amount of money from music, then a day job may be a neccessity - and we all know some jobs are intolerant to long locks on men. :(
the Vast Majority of them still Have their Long hair....Some dont, but Most do...
