Hi guys.... I'm a newbie.. have always wanted to grow my hair out but never managed to pull it off.. I'm 25 years old and from Ireland, I figure now is the perfect time for me to give it a proper go... Anyway at the moment I like to straighten my hair and tie it up at the back, because when i tie it up, you can't notice that I straightened it at all :)... the reason why I straighten it is because it curls up at the back if I don't... I'm hoping that in a couple of more months I won't have to straighten it anymore as the hair should be heavy enough to fall down... Anyway I'll post some photo's below...... now the top few is a picture of my hair NOT straight.... and the last picture is of my hair straight and the way I like to wear it at the minute..... I'd love to hear what you all think.... straight or not? like I said I don't plan to straighten it forever... I know how damaging it can be.... but it has really helped me out of the so called awkward stage :D! Oh by the way I'm trying to grow a beard aswell..... I kind of want to have the whole Jim Morrison hairstyle going on.. here's hoping!
Thanks guys!

You're off to a great start. I personally like the waviness as it adds body to your hair. As your hair lengthens, it will become less noticeable with the extra weight. As you noted, straightening causes damage. I would at least try to not do it all the time.
The first few entries of my blog note where I was at your stage. I don't think my waves were as pronounced as yours but I never straightened my hair though I did use gel which had a straightening effect.
Thanks for your comments Jason.... I love your hair man.. I'm hoping mine will be similar.. love the beard too! have you been growing your hair/beard out for long? i leave my hair for as long as possible without straightening and washing... at the minute i get about 3-4 days before i have to do anything to it..... I don't think i'm quite there yet... (where i feel comfortable not straightening) but i'd say come x-mas i'll be able to let it do it's own thing.. :)..... to be honest i like to keep it neat to keep people off my back! i use a small bit of gel too..... but it's not noticeable... love your blog by the way! some great photos.... let it grow :D thanks dude.
Welcome aboard! Awesome look dude! Keep it growin'and flowin'!!!
peace, jonalbear
Thanks Jonalbear... appreciate the comment :) !
Hi Fools Illusion,
First of all, welcome to the hyperboard, and thank you for sharing your update with us. You have an excellent head of hair to work with, thick, just the right amount of wave, and a decent amount of shine as well. You are off to a really good start in your hair growing journey, and I look forward to your future progress!
Keep it growing,
David

Hello there Mr. Illusion,
You're hair looks hands-down TERRIFIC!!! One word of advise, though, based on hard-earned first hand experience with an old geezer longhair (in other words: me! - LOL)....
Don't give up on your hair, just keep on growing it, no matter what -- no matter how curly, no matter how crazy-looking sometimes, no matter how "awkward"... Once you get it to ponytail length where you can tie it all back, you will be grateful you hung in there and didn't cut it.
The only regret I ever had about my own long hair is that I didn't grow it out sooner, when I was young (my first ponytail didn't happen until my 40th birthday). Since you are still in your 20s, you have a lot of years ahead of you to have that great-looking natural hair color, along with its current wonderful thickness & fullness -- so enjoy it to the fullest, as you have a wonderful head of hair to grow out looooooong!!

Thanks Ken..... love your pictures!.. and thanks for the kind advice and comments... i tried growing my hair out before and couldn't handle the awkward stage so i cut it off, like so many people.... regretted it straight afterwards!..... this second time around i feel like i've passed the really awkward stage and with every passing week it feels like it's getting easier to manage.... :D i think i'd sit in a corner and cry if i cut it off now.. hahah... long hairs rock! screw what society says is right ;) ! good to hear your part irish too..... it has always been a dream of mine to visit california..... hopefully someday when i'm longhaired!
Peace....

First, I wanted to say welcome and also that your hair is looking really good. You have more wave than I do; it's gonna look great when it's longer. Keep up the good work--the wait is worth it!
Steve
Thanks a lot for the warm welcome Steve! I'll keep an eye out for your posts! :) peace man.

I'd suggest doing nothing. Just grab your patience and let it
grow naturally.
Thanks for the advice man..... :) ! i might give the natural look another shot the next time i wash it.. peace man.

Great looking hair and beard! I too am growing both. How long have you been growing out for? I'm curious because my current length is maybe 2-3 months behind in terms of the front, and 4 months or so on the back (my front is longer).
Thanks man! appreciate the comments.... Ahh my beard hasn't quite filled out yet, it's still a work in progress! but I'd say I haven't cut my hair since February this year.... So roughly been growing my hair for about 8 months without doing a thing to it (trims, tidy ups, etc........) I'll keep an eye out for your posts bro..... thanks again...

Coming on really well mate, the beard is fine and the hair cool, I would stay away from the straighteners and just let it do its thing to be honest.
Welcome! and good luck with your journey
Dave
Thanks Dave.... love your hair too man... that's pretty much the length I'm hoping for!.. I know I should probably stay away from the straighteners..... so I think I'm gonna try to just let it be next time I wash it :)... thanks for the warm welcome brother!
