Hi Everyone
Finally I get to post a 6 month progress pic. I know its a very small step, but I plan to just keep going. Maybe one day if I am lucky enough it will be waist length. Although the general advise seems to be against trims I should say that I am having them, bit only the very tips, only from one hairdresser (who supports me in my quest for long hair), and only once every 3 months. My hair got in very bad condition before and I dont want that to happen again. Also I stopped using gel which I think dried out my hair and only wash my hair in cold water once a week after deep coconut oil treatment overnight thanks to the advice on this board.
My coincidence is as follows. 32 Years ago I returned to school from sumer break without cutting my hair. Within half an hour I got a canning (cuts) for my hair. I lost count how many cuts I got for my hair over the years I was at that school. I then arrived late a the class of a new teacher because I couldnt find his class. He told me I had the wrong class. After he started telling me that I should be at the girls school over the road I realized what he was on about. He was most sarcastic. After I cut my hair the headmaster said it was ok, but only just. This new teacher of mine however said I had to cut it again regardless of what the boss (the headmaster) said and that I was to show him the new haircut on Monday. It was at that point that I finally decided to call it quits with that school and simply never went back. About 6 months ago, after deciding to grow my hair I went to buy a desk from an old lady. She told me that her husband had died about a year ago and that she wanted to get rid of his desk. She didnt want much for the desk provided I organized to take it away. I got on quite well with her and we had a little chat. It turns out that her husband was a teacher. You guessed it the same one who finally was the reason I left that school. There seemed no point in relating the story to her, but I thought it quite a coincidence. If the old boy's (I can think of a few other names for him) spirit is still around I am hoping he will get to see waist length hair on me. Meantime there is some pretty amazing heads of hair proudly displayed on my monitor on his old desk.
Sorry for the long message and a huge thank for this amazing site! I really enjoy it.
Absolutely excellent hair, and look for you, man. You are blessed with looking better with longer hair, unlike some on this site (LOL!!)
Keep it growin'....
Thanks for the encouragement

Congrats Lance on your courage to go for what you want. After all it's your body and no one should be telling you how to present yourself in this crazy world.Really, what is it to them anyway.lol.Thanks for posting your pics and its nice to hear when advice generated by this board helps out the newbies.Keep the faith my friend.Cheers
Mark
Hi Mark, thanks for your encouragement and comments. You are right it is sometimes a crazy world. I have been quite surprised at the strong reactions of some people when I told them not to nag about my hair as I had taken this decision and if it bothers them that much they should rather not see me. Thankfully (although most were negative) there were a few very positive reactions and outcomes. Lance

Hi Lance,

What superb irony! I'd get a LOT of pleasure out of having long hair displayed on a monitor on that desk! The guy must be rolling in his grave.
What a ghastly school! Caned just for having long hair! Kudos to you for having the balls to quit.
Thanks for sharing.

Hi Damon, thanks for your comment, made me laugh at the absurdity of things. Lance
Hi Lance,
Congratulations to you for sticking to your guns and doing this for you, and you are off to an excellent start, with thick curls. Be sure to keep up the good work!
Keep it growing,
David
Thanks David, feels good to get positive encouragement instead of the negativity about hair which normally has been the case in the past. Lance
