To all yall long haird bros... As you can see in the photo, my hair is very curly. It is almost like an African-American's hair. It is a major bitch to brush it out every morning dealing with the tangles from sleeping. I brush it very gently & I don't yank on it. Hair is super-thick. I have learned to tap the brush on the tangles and it usually helps a great deal but it is really time consuming. I try to get my partner to help but he has not the patience! Heh... Any of yall know of a good spray-on stuff to help with this? I use Pantene brand shampoo & conditioner, too. Any better ideas on another shampoo & conditioner brand? Much obliged on any input!
Hi Tom,
First of all great looking hair you have there my friend:)Being my hair is quite different than yours in texture my advice may or may not be helpful.First try finger combing initially starting from the ends and working your way up towards your head. You can apply a very small amount of coconut oil or jojoba oil to help lubricate your hair but be very careful not to add too much as then your hair will appear very oily. There are also many "leave in" conditioner products on the market you could try instead of the oils if you prefer. One I've used in the past was Infusium 23 leave in conditioner which worked well for me.Anyway those are my suggestions. If you try any of them do let me know how they worked for you:)Cheers
Mark
I agree with Hairball about Infusium 23. I've used it for years. I have fine hair that tangles and I have to be very careful to avoid breakage, so I came up with a technique. When it's wet, I first start combing with my fingers, working from the bottom to the top. I find that wiggling my fingers independently as I do this makes it detangle much faster. Then I begin carefully using a really big comb and instead of just running it straight through, I pivot it in a sort of half curve, again working from bottom to top. Then I use a wide spaced plastic brush from bottom to top, rolling it in a half arch each time.
Thank yall for yalls input!! I'm gonna see if I can find that Infusium 23 Shampoo. My sister mentioned that!! Not that she uses it, was just a suggestion.. I had posted my pic here weeks ago and lost the bookmark after I visited here.. Got it saved now!!
Again, many thanx!!
I have really thick, coarse hair and I have encountered many of the same problems you have. I HIGHLY recommend Aveeno spray leave in conditioner, as well as their regular conditioner for dry hair.
If you want straighter hair, that is soft, shiny and silky, theres a 1 year semi perma straightening treatment that professional salons can do.
If youre interested youtube it, videos there that explain it in detail. Im considering having it done when my hair gets longer.
If you dont want to do that, spray in conditioners and deep moisterizing conditioners help a lot.
Another alternative, sounds weird, but putting a mixture of mayonaisse and olive oil in your hair and wrapping it in a plastic bag or something for 2 hours is an amazing way to add deep moisterization to you hair really quick.
Have you tried sleeping with your hair tied down? I do and I find it helps. For reference I think my hair is just slightly shorter than yours but I have the same problems as you. I've also been experimenting with tying the hair again at the end, so the hair after the (first) hair tie doesn't get all tangled as I roll around in my sleep.
Do any of the super longhairs have advice on multiple hair ties and the physics involved?
Thanks and hope it helps,
Logan
I'm black and hair can get pretty coarse and frizzy too. What I do is oil it at night w/coconut, olive, kukui, or almond oil, brush it with the softest boar bristle brush I can, and carefully braid it, to prevent it from getting tangled and ripped. Then in the shower the following morning when I have LOTS of conditioner in I finger comb out any tangles (there should be very few) and go over it with a very wide-toothed comb.
If I do all of it, there's very little yanking and pulling I need to do for each step, and each takes very little time.
As for shampoo and conditioner, I recommend Garnier Fructis Triple Condition. They also have a deep conditioning treatment I use as a leave-in on my ends and the parts exposed to air.
