Hey guys,
I posted here a couple of weeks ago to introduce myself and get a feeling of the forum. This time, I'd like to post because I have decided to go on a self-experiment in which, for 30 days, I will not be using any hair products, including shampoo.
The experiment has already started (I am on Day 4 of 30) and I am documenting all of it on my personal blog. Have already posted two updates with pics and I will be posting these updates every 3 days until Day 30.
Feel free to pass by and show your support, comment, like, subscribe or voice your opinion. I am counting on my blog readers to be the judges of this potentially disastrous experiment. What is more, by having long curly hair, I am using the most extreme hair scenario to test the viability of such an experiment: long hair that needs plenty of moisture and curly hair that is prone to being dry and knots easily when not moisturized. See why I call it potentially disastrous? LOL
I am posting a very fresh (from today) picture, let's see how it ends up by Day 30!
I very much look forward to hearing from you guys.
All the best.

It's so funny that you're going no-poo because I too decided to give it a go and am on day 3. Good luck to us both :D
LOL, good timing!
Feel free to contact me with your results and we can exchange our experiences. Can I ask what type is your hair? Straight, wavy, curly?
Kind Regards,
Rogelio
My hair is straight on top and wavy/slightly curly on the bottom. It also tends to curl when I'm sweating (after a workout most times). I actually have to use conditioner on my hair because it gets WAY too oily w/o it. I went cold turkey on shampoo though. Here is a recent pic. I'm at 4.5 months currently.
Great looking head of hair sir.
I have a friend who had mid-back curly hair like yours and it was grand. Much to my dismay-not his- he cut the majority of it off and straightened it to try something new. I thought his long black curls suited him well, but he didn't like dealing with challenges of very long curly, frizzy hair.
As far as the no shampooing the most I can get away with is once-a-week shampoo, along with two condition only washes in-between. My hair is straight, though, so I don't have any issues with frizziness, and after a few days of no washing my hair gets a dull look to it and becomes so limp it needs a washing to regain it's shine and body.
Regards,
Jeremy
Thanks for the reply Jeremy!
The longest I have gone no-shampoo has been two weeks so this will prove interesting.
Your friend straightened his hair? Sacrilege!!!
Kind Regards

On survivalistboards, I read an essay from one of the members who was trying to take the "plunge" into primitive living. Among other things, he spoke about how he caught and prepared his own food, how he had to get a hunting permit and live on government land, and how he had to do handy-man jobs around a nearby town to make ends meet for a while.
I mention this because he also spoke about personal hygiene in the woods. He described months without shampoos as "a trying time." But he also says that after about six months, his hair and skin "stabilized," and they now look very healthy. Maybe this is why all the Native Americans in modern media are portrayed with smooth, shiny hair.
