Hey Guys! I was thinking and remembering stuff today, and here is something that I wanted to share : I remember reading or hearing that "having style" is being yourself and wearing what you like without giving a damn to what everyone else will think. So, considering that everyone here were/is in a journey of self knowing while growing hair, and wear our manes the way we do, with the many braids, ponytails, bandannas, hats and other stuff (without caring to the thoughts of people around)... then we all here are very stylish men lol. Share your thoughts =)
Big Hug to all!
Works for me.
Here is what I see "style" as. If something looks good on me, it will ALWAYS look good (unless I physically change a whole lot). I don't buy into all the fads. I look good with my dressing style so I stick to it, if it isn't "in" then I couldn't care less. I always liked my hair longer. It's part of my style as well as my identity.
I'm the same way. I know what looks good on me and what I like. The last thing I'm gonna do is change things up just to be with the 'in' group of people! I've stopped caring what other people think about me a long time ago--and it feels great to be past it!
Hi AndyBeta,
Well I wear my hair and dress the way that makes me feel good about myself. As you know a few months ago I took the bold step to henna my hair red which appealed to me and that's all that mattered.I could hardly care what people in real life felt about that. Also as you might have noticed in a thread below I mentioned that I like wearing skinny jeans. Now most would think a guy my age shouldn't wear those but I do.That's because I like how I look in them:)Now I could get even more bold and wear them in bright vivid colors but I haven't gone that far!LOL.So that's a couple of my thoughts on style:)Cheers my friend!
Mark
Me too. I like the feel and look of skinny jeans so thats all
that matters. But I haven't got bold enough to wear bright
colors either. :-)
*shrug* I love bright colors, and if I have to shop the women's side of the store to get them, well, so be it! Also nice to get jackets that fit, unlike men's jackets that are square boxes. I'm vain enough to want to wear clothes that show that I have a figure!
As to style...there is personal style which can be very distinct from community or cultural style. Personally, I'm good with being myself.
-----------------------------
Go for it, Trollypup!! You wear what you want - who cares what 'department' of the store it came from. I have always thought that the "traditional" selection of clothing, hair styles, etc. for men was extremely limited.
Vanity, when taken to an extreme, is not good for anyone. But I don't think you're being vain by dressing in a way that makes you feel comfortable and confident ~ quite the opposite, in fact: a man who is comfortable with, and confident in, himself (w/o being conceited) is very attractive. :)
Hey Mark,
Well, "if you got, it, flaunt it!" Those are my thoughts on the topic, anyway! You've got a very fit & trim body, so why not wear skinny jeans to show it off??
I have to buy my clothes nowadays at, "San Francisco Tent & Awning" (as I've teased about myself in the past, as you know - LOL); but whatever makes us feel comfortable and happy in our own skin, that's what we should be doing, and so that becomes our "style"...
I also love love LOVE your Henna hair!!!
Later,
Ken

Hey Ken, great to see you back participating on the board after a short, but
noticeable absence.lol.I truly miss you when not posting here but I understand
your situation.
Thank you for the vote of confidence on my hennaed hair as even though I don't
care what some haysayers might suggest it's still nice to know that some actually like it:) Same goes with the clothes we wear on a daily basis. With that said Ken
don't ever sell yourself short as we all have our redeeming qualities and some can't be seen but they are there if you follow me;) We have met several times and I'm alway honored to hang with you so I got to see firsthand how cool you are:) Anyway that's so much for the kind words and hope to catch up with you soon via phone or other means.Cheers my friend.
Mark
"we all have our redeeming qualities"
Amen to that, Red!
BTW Mark, I am still waiting to see a photo of your action man with henna'd hair... NO, wait - you should get a third action man, so you can have one dark haired, one blonde, and one nutty redhead (wearing cut off jeans shorts, and a miniture Crocodile Dundee hat) <<---- does that remind you of someone??? :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :)
Welllllllllll, I almost had that redhead but at least the dark and light are covered. They have become very good friends too:)LOL
------------------------------
Oh, I get it ~ YOU are the resident redheaded action man! In that case, you will need 1% spandex skinny jeans and a full size Dundee hat. :)
And, yes, the 1-2% spandex makes all the difference in the world!!!! A million times more comfortable than 100% cotton. Also, if you want the color on your jeans to last longer, look for garments that are 'yarn dyed'. This means that the thread is dyed before the garment/fabric is woven. 'Fabric dyed' or 'garment dyed' generally refers to the fabric (before being sewn into a garment)or garment (after it was sewn together) being dipped into a dye bath. 'Overdyed' means the fabric is already dyed once (yarn OR garment dyed), then is dipped into a second dye bath, usually a different color. You can also overdye your own jeans at home in your washing machine using Rit dye (just make sure the thread used to sew the seams is not that plastic-like stuff, it won't absorb the dye color).
Or you could just henna your jeans -- then your hair, beard, and jeans will all match! Bahahahahahaha
Andy,
I totally agree with you, man! It drives me mad how much people buy into the opinions of others, and utterly disregard their own interests, just for the sake of the comfort of being in a group, while in fact, everyone in that group has divergent drives to do things that they disregard/put off because they think that nobody else feels the same way!
I might refer to this sometime in the future, man. Interesting thought! :D

If I wanted to be in style i'd have cut my hair years ago.
I don't so i haven't. So the hair stays long because that is
what I want to do with my hair.
I have my own unique style, and I often get positive comments about my look. I almost never got such when I was younger but had not found my identity yet.
Hey Bill,
Just a quick comment, since I see you live & in-person more than anyone else on this site: I love your style! I especially enjoy seeing your bandana flare, as it's more or less your "signature" style (to my eyes, at least) -- a joy to witness, and always a pleasure to be around!
