Hey there everyone. There was something that has been bothering me for quite some time and today I finally decided to bring it to your attention. As some of you know, I'm growing out my hair again for the 2nd time in my life after having it cut over a year ago. I'm currently nearing 5 months and am pretty happy with my progress. One thing I notice, however, is that the growth pattern is a bit different than it was from the last time. The first time I grew out, my hair was super thick and curly-ish, this time it's very fine/straight on top but wavy on the sides on the lower back. There is one thing that worries me though and that is the top/back hairs. I notice some clumping going on that exposes a bit of scalp. This really bothers me. I keep having paranoid thoughts of those hairs just falling off and leaving bald spots. I don't have a history of family baldness, so this shouldn't be happening. Anyway take a look at the picture and let me know what you think.
Could be if you don't wash your hair often it's starting to accumulate natural oils at the scalp which causes the hair closest to it to clump up.I wash my hair twice a week and by the time it's close to wash time some of my hairs clump up like yours are doing.Once I wash and air dry my hair all is well again:) So I imagine you are experiencing the same issue. Not hair lose but only oily hairs clinging together.Cheers

I agree with hairball. The same thing happens to me when it's starting to need washed (though I may put it off for another day or so past that point). It's just the natural oils sticking strands together. I am definitely NOT balding and I've seen these spots in myself, they clear up after I shampoo. If you're using product in your hair that might be causing it as well. When your hair gets long enough for a part you'll have a big line going down your head that looks completely bald as well (scared me how bald it looked at first, because I'm used to short short hair, no parts and even coverage). It looks bald but the hairs are just being pulled to the sides by their own weight so much that it leaves a gap.
Both cases are nothing to worry about though and quite normal.
to me. I see no signs of thinning. Natural oil causes hair to clump a bit. Mine is like that right now. I can't wash for a couple of days due to a severe windstorm. (The hair dryer will not work during a power outage, and it is too cold to air dry.) Your hair is thick and full. Looking great, don't worry about it. Your hair has great potential, just sit back and enjoy the ride. You will have gorgeous, thick, long, flowing hair in a couple of years. Then all of you current concerns regarding your hair will be distant memories.

Thanks for the replies guys, but the problem is that this happens even a day after I shampoo/condition. This picture was taken later on in the day after a wash. My hair on the top is also thinner than the sides and lower back. It used to be thicker which is why I'm a bit worried.
I don't see any thinning there. Like another said, could be from being wet/oily. It looks like a healthy head of hair from here!
