I apologize that I won't have time to reply to each of you individually re. my O/T thread about going to the fat farm (which is way down the page by now already); but let's see if I can remember some of your questions, and try to answer whatever I can recall...
A small correction about a misunderstanding, first: I'll only be away for 2 weeks at the fat farm -- my sister-in-law went to this place last year for 6 months (and she is going with me for a 2-week "refresher"; so that will be fun hanging out with her), during which time she lost a total of 5o lbs. No worries: I have no unrealistic expectations of losing any "amazing" amount of weight in just 2 weeks' time, just hope it helps me "jump-start" myself into better habits, including re-focusing on what I can do better once I return back home.
Where is this place? It's in Hilton Head, South Carolina. All I know about it other than that is that it's close to the Atlantic, and there are native alligators in the surrounding swamplands. Classes in alligator-wrestling don't occur until my 2nd week there; so no worries, I should be in good enough shape by then to not lose to them and get eaten (LOL)....
Are my expectations and weight-loss goals realistic? Hell, no! I want to look EXACTLY like Orlando Bloom (with Johnny Depp and Tom Cruise as my 2nd and 3rd choice, if I can't get Orlando), -- and to be as skinny and as stunningly handsome as him by 2weeks, too!!!!!!
Do I do primarily cooking for a living nowadays, or gardening? The answer to that question is (drum roll, please): I totally LOVE to eat the food I cook for others!!! (But also, yes, I occasionally still do a few small gardening jobs -- however, a chubby old geezer like me waddling around in someone's flower bed is a rather scary sight, isn't it? - LOL)....
Any other questions? (I'm sorry, but since I have to pack my bags still, you'll have to wait past the 2 weeks mark in order to get any further answers - LOL)
All kidding aside, thanks again for all the kind replies, especially all of you who shared your own stories of losing weight yourselves. Back in the late '80s I lost weight and kept it off for a good 3-4 years; so losing weight is not completely unfamiliar to me -- just seemed a bit more difficult in more recent years. I value every reply and word of encouragement, and will definitely follow some of your excellent advise that so many of you shared...
But now, gotta go off to the fat farm!
- Ken (AKA "Orlando" - LOL)
