Hey guys,
As you all know my hair has grown quite a lot lately! But a couuple of my friends are trying to convinced me to get a haircut. They tell me that I would look much younger and there words "more handsome ". I don't think I would cut it, however I fantasize a shorter length at times! But I kW I will deeply regret it if I did it, needing a bit of support! I'm happy with my look but who doesn't wasn't to look younger when ur in your 40's .
Thanksgiving Dee.
Don't listen to them. If you really want to see what you'd look like with short hair, just put it in a pony tail and stuff it under a hat. I do this every day for work and I'm not particularly fond of the face staring back in the mirror on those days. :P You have gorgeous hair and cutting it would be a crying shame, not to mention I think they're completely wrong and you're at all like me you'll look older not younger with short hair.
Just keep the two week rule in mind and you'll be fine. ;-)

Thanks Dale! I was having a weak moment, he even offered to get me haircut for Christmas, I just told to please stop pestering me and to respect my wishes, that I found it offensive to give me such a present. If I want to look younger I will shave my facial hair lol
This sounds like peer pressure to me. they want to try to talk you into conforming and being like everyone else.
it is so easy to conform, but it takes real strength and confidence to say NO to haircuts.
Do NOT do it. keep your hair long and if you really have this fantasy about seeing yourself with short hair tie your hair into a ponytail and put on a short hair wig!!
we've all heard the slogan "Just say no to drugs"
how about "Just Say No To Haircuts"?
Thanks Neo! Having a weak moment there! I'm OK now!!! Came back to my senses, when I walk into my local bar I get at least two ppl who compliment my hair and tell me I should never cut it! Now that's a boost
thanks Dee.
Listen to your natural instincts Dee. If you enjoy having and maintaining long hair then to do otherwise would be a betrayal of your true self. Believe me if your 40 years old succumbing to peer pressure would make your self-esteem worse and may trigger major depression. Why are so many gay people obsessed with having short hair and trying to force short hair onto fellow gays? It is good that there are guys like yourself who are different from the herd and challenge the gay stereotype. Like the old song goes " you can't please everyone so you may as well please yourself"
cheers,
Duncan
Thanks Duncan! Believe me I know the stereotype! And it pisses me off when they all look the same! In the late 90's I had my hair almost to my butt and eventually I slowly began to cut it! I always regreted that because I can only imagine how long my hair would be now! So I remembered that feeling of regret when I cut it! I remember really feeling invisible after I cut it.
Thanks for the support ! I'm so glad these two sites are here!
Hi Dee
From 3 years ago when I still had very long hair. Hope this helps you. Take care.

Hi Justin,
I have to say that video is the perfect defense for sticking with the journey or even maintaining what you have once your goal is reached.Every newbie and veteran longhair should have that burnt on a CD to view anytime their hair comes into question. It actually should be required viewing as part of the two week rule I might add:)Fortunately I've never questioned my hair length so it never has been an issue but I've seen many here who have and a video like you just posted is just what one needs at a low moment in their life should they want to take it out on their hair when things aren't going well.I know the video is from awhile ago but the information is timeless;)Cheers my friend.

Hi Mark! :-)
Every newbie and veteran longhair should have that burnt on a CD to view anytime their hair comes into question.
*Anyone wanting to do this please feel free. Think I made something like around 15 episodes when the hair was still long until disaster struck. Then many more because the You Tube audience is always thinking up new questions. LOL

*Thank you Mark. I never questioned it either for all of those years. (Guess I don't seem to waver so much and have 2nd thoughts like so many other guys that are unsure.) I wanted long hair.....I grew long hair it and it stayed! :-) I would still have it today if it were not for the Salon demolishment and several months later the surgery that saved my life. That is what really did me in, and belive me I did everything to try and save it as I do not give-up easily. Despite, 9 months of continued daily hair loss leaves one with strands that look like cobwebs and are in a constant state of tangles. So I was really forced into a decision, and let's say in my case with all totaled-up time wise, it ended up a 10 month rule for me and I simply decided to cut back. (Still losing hair after this despite.) So finally to nearly a buzz and now all is growing well once again. I have decided as many know that from now on on, "longish" styles for myself and am having fun with these. Because I have some serious health issues, waiting 5 years to get back to the very long length at this point I feel just too long. But, at least I had the experience for nearly 3/4th of my life and have absolutely no regrets.
Take care Mark
Justin~
Justin and Mark thanks for the video, very inspirational! The support is awesome!
Hey Dee! Look, what i have to say for you is almost what everyone already said. Sticking to your beliefs is the way to go. Don't let this crazy world control you, be yourself. I almost cut it because of girls that would be with me if I did it. But I just thought : "Screw those fools, I'm the one talking to them and giving them attention, not my hair." Keep following your heart, and watch "Interview with the vampire". Look at how Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise look handsome with longer hair. I'm a straight male, but it always work for me.
Big hug ando good luck on your journey.
.I that I would regret it immensely Irvine cut it off at this stage...I went through this before when I had hair almost to my waist in the late 90s. I started cutting of short until it was completely goneand I Dentalsave want to do this again!!however I'm so grateful for this board for all the support!

Andy another great movie to watch are the Underworld trilogy! Love those flicks! Many longhairs in them! Why is it that vampires and werewolves look soo cool with long hair? Its awesome!

Whenever I start feeling like I should cut it short again I will watch a bit of Lord of the Rings, Last of the Mohicans, or something similar to remind me that long hair is also cool and how crummy I would feel after cutting it.
This. Every cool movie hero (except maybe Neo, whose epic coat is long enough to make a statement by itself anyway) has long hair. Luke and Obi-wan, Jay and Silent Bob, The Big Lebowski, Aragorn/Boromir/Legolas/Gimli, Jack Sparrow, some incarnations of Dracula.
If you cut your hair, you'll feel like every other schmoe walking the halls, no matter how handsome the rest of you is. I went through that when I shaved my head in seventh grade. I no longer felt like I stood out, as my hair had become part of my identity. People referred to me by describing it because I was the only seventh grade guy with the long locks. So I can only tell you that you will regret the change, if only for a little while.
Thanks pug!!

Thanks! I usually like to watch Interview with the Vampire
And did this weekend! !! I'm OK now, I know it would be a big mistake especially after reaching this length, thanks for the support!!!
PS love those other movies u mentioned as well!!

Hi Dee :)
I second everything Duncan said in his reply, plus everyone who said 'be true to yourself' and 'follow the 2 week rule'.
And I will also add:
I've seen the Flickr photo of you with shorter hair, and think you actually look the same age with shorter OR longer hair, but you look more individual and unique with longer hair. If anything is making you look older, it would be gray in your facial hair, not the length of your head hair. And most men in their early 40's have some gray in their facial hair, whether they have a few gray head hairs or not.
It is very obvious that you *love* your hair ~ always coloring it, styling it different ways, sharing photos of it wet, dry, in indoor light, in sunlight, wavy, brushed straight, beachy saltwater hair...shall I continue? :) :) :) All this indicates that you are deriving a great deal of enjoyment from your hair, and you also enjoy sharing it with like-minded people. Don't let the stray comments about cutting it get to you. Also, you have an artistic side. A true artist knows that art is fluid, not fixed (have you ever seen a video of Pablo Picasso creating his work? A stellar example of the fluidity of art, and the journey of the creator). Along with photography and graphic design, for you, your hair is an extention of your art, your vision, your passion - always changing and evolving. And the other thing about artists is that they are never quite finished with their work, never completely satisfied, always tweaking things a bit. <---This is you and your hair! Go on and tweak it, just don't do anything you will regret.
Now, to address the 'you will look more handsome' comment. Sometimes you just gotta break it down, so the next time your friends say this to you, simply reply: "Before I left the house, I checked my wieght on the bathroom scale, then I checked my handsomeness on the handsome-odometer. It came up 10, 10, and 10 for 'gorgeous mane', 'sexy eyes', and 'luscious lips'. So, either you guys are wrong, or my trusty handsome-odometer is in need of calibration." (SNAP!)
Laura-you are so amazing! thank YOUUUU sooooo much for these exquisite words of wisdom!I actually said to my friend to please stop commenting for me to cut my hair or try to bribe me into paying for an expensive haircut--I said if you are truly my friend then you would respect my wishes and accept me how I am...I guess every now and then I wonder if they are right and I second guess myself. But, thankfully with people like you Laura, and others on this site I have the support I need when I feel like I should cut my hair...When I had long hair in the 90's-much longer than what it is now. I had a friend that would always say to me that he couldn't pinpoint what it was about me that people were drawn to and made him feel invisible...(And he had model good looks)But we came to the conclusion that it was my longhair that gave me that special perk lol...I remember clearly after I cut it, everyone I knew didn't comment a word about my short hair. (No comment=Don't like)I clearly remember feeling that I lost a part of myself when I chopped my locks off. And , I guess that individuality was gone and I just blended in like everyone else...Now when I'm out or hang with friends I have that special aura again...It's strange because I have some friends (Guys and girls) that tell me to never cut my hair and I have others that tell me to cut it. (Sometimes, I wonder if it isn't jealousy)
Again thank you for making me feel like my own true self again!
Dee.
--Laura, you made me cry your words were so honest and caring!
--Dee, You'll be good, man. I'm 30 right now, going through the '30 year crisis' and have thought about chopping the locks, too. but... after reading this, thanks to your question and Laura's response, I WILL NOT CHOP.
> They tell me that I would look much younger and there words "more handsome ".
Younger? Hey, when I went to my 20th college reunion (age 42), with hair halfway down my back, some of my classmates thought I was a student! One of the security guards almost gave me a citation for parking the in visitor's parking lot, too!
I'm not understanding the "younger" thing. First off, I don't agree that long hair makes one look older. Second, even if it did, it doesn't matter, since you are the age you are. I've seen some of the most awesome long hair on guys with silver/white hair. In all actuality, long hair in middle age conveys a youthful, free spirit.
Only cut your hair for you, not others.
