the last time i washed my hair was at the beginning of september. for a couple of years before that i had been washing my hair usually only 1-3 times per month. currently it's been three months, and it's never consistently looked this good. i may never wash it again! i'm really loving what this new habit has done for the texture and volume of my hair. hopefully you can make it out in the picture!
I do like the consistency your hair has in that picture. I've seen girls go to stylists and spend hundreds of dollars for jobs like that for their proms! (That's not to say that the style is exclusively girly, of course)
Since there was a blackout last night I was not able to wash my hair. This is my fourth day without a wash and I might experiment with the sebum my body produces naturally; do you wash it at all? What about just using water?
i do use water. the way this all started was that i was living in a tent for a while and it became harder to access a shower. i quickly noticed, however, that i could be greasy and wanting a wash, and then get rained on, and afterward my hair would look amazing.
so currently i'm actually wetting my hair slightly more often than i used to wash it.
ALSO i forgot to mention that before this started, i had a dandruff problem. my scalp was always very itchy and flaky and only somewhat managed by anti-dandruff shampoos. now, my scalp isn't back to perfect, but i've got almost no itchiness and much less flakiness--and it seems to slowly be reducing more and more every day.
What I like most about natural hair grease is that it makes hair so easy to style, and so naturally resistant to damage. Normally I need a hair tie to give myself a slicked-back "formal" look, but if I've gone one or two days without showering I only need to brush it back (with a boar's-hair brush as to redistribute the oils).
How difficult is it to achieve such a natural effect? Was there a time between the last shower and nowadays where your head was so damp-looking that you were tempted to just start over?
yes, it has occasionally looked flat and greasy, but i've always stuck to to just rinsing it and then deciding what to do after it dries. and by that time it always looks perfectly presentable again--much more presentable, in fact, if i had washed it (after a wash i'm always frizzy for about 3 days as my oils slowly redistribute themselves--now i'm never frizzy).
Same here, bro. I see we have similar types of hair, just from your picture. Great locks, bro. My experience has been the same: avoid shampoo for two weeks, use only conditioner and water to wash in the shower, and -bingo- I find that my hair has never looked better! Fuck the people who find us strange for not washing. Fuck them. and heavy metal greetings to you \m/
You have some of the most amazing hair I have seen in awhile. Whatever you are doing, keep it up, as it looks great. When you say you haven't washed your hair, do you mean no shampoo-just water, Or Nothing, no water etc.?
and dreadful it looks too.
Whilst you may like the appearance nothing gets away from the fact that it looks greasy and uncared for. That is a key factor in how long hairs are judged by others. Long hair is be accepted by many so long as it looks clean.
If someone seeks a job from me and is worried about his hair, my only comment is that it should look clean and cared for.
Not what you want to read but...
personally, being nice is a key factor in how *i* judge others.
having good taste is too.
obviously you are a Very Important Person, but girlfriend, chill out and quit telling other people how to live, thx.
Look UK, Calm the fuck down and have some common courtesy. I don't really give a fuck about how you judge your 'prospective employees' at whatever the fuck place you choose to work at, but I DO know rudeness when I see it. Stop being the Long Hair Board Troll. Your words aren't helpful, they're just brash and unkind. IMO-you're jealous of the way his hair looks, and wish you had such beautiful locks yourself. His hair kicks ass and fuckin rocks!!
Common courtesy, Jordanian? Your verbal assault on a long-standing and respected member of this community is utterly lacking in any semblance of it. UK simply stated his opinion, as is his right, and shared a legitimate concern regarding the way long-haired men are often regarded by society as a whole, and employers in specific. It would behoove you to note this snippet from the FAQ: "Do not use foul language. This site is intended for all audiences. Repeated offenses may subject the poster to be banned from the board."
Allowing the words of others to so dramatically control the way you feel is sure to bring you a great deal of unnecessary stress in life. In the words of another longhair, Thomas Jefferson, "Nothing gives one person so great an advantage over another as to remain always cool and unruffled under all circumstances."

Look man, if what I said offended anyone here as deeply as it did you, I'd be surprised. Whether someone is a long standing member of this community means absolutely nothing to me, and I responded to 'UK' in a brash manner because of what seemed TO ME a passive-aggressive statement he made. Again, if someone says something I feel is RUDE, I defend the person being berated. I haven't read the FAQ, as I thought that perhaps we, being a group of adults, (not too many kiddies post on this board, as I have seen) could handle a few profanity-laced sentences. But...I'll watch my mouth (hands) from now on. Wish I could be as completely and utterly without a trace of inner strife or vindictive anger as you, Val. But such is not the case, and I suppose Thomas Jefferson would feel the same about myself as you do!

in postscript: Guess I can't say 'kicks ***' about some kick *** locks here.
I don't see what UK did wrong and why so many f bombs were thrown at him. I personally think the original poster's hair looks great, but UK simply stated how OTHER NON LONG HAIRS feel about longhairs in general and how we can avoid the stereotype.
Do you still need to brush or comb it?
i generally avoid doing these, but occasionally it is necessary; in this case, i try to do it right before a rinse so that it can air-dry with a more natural, instead of a just-brushed, look.
Your hair has great texture, and is very unique! I can't wash mine very often (once a week), because of dryness and hard water. I do like how it behaves much more when it hasn't been shampooed for a little while.
Thanks for the update!
if u stopped combing ur hair as well, u would have some dope dreads in a couple years.
if i didnt wash my hair for months i bet i couldnt get a comb through it.
