In the not so friendly to the concept of Men with long hair state of Texas I have yet to find work even though I was informed that they had the lowest unemployment per capita and I've been here over three months.
unless there is a secret "list of companies" within the DFW area I will probably be forced to go to another state because around here it seems that only closely cropped haircuts including buzzcuts are only acceptable here now.
any suggestions would be greatly appreciated including from people from both the west coast and east coast which are probably a little more tolerant to guys wanting to wear their hair long!
thanx,
Greg
Try Petco lol. I work for them . The only rule is that your hair is kept neat and no odd colors.
Hi Greg,
Out of curiosity, what type of employment are you looking for?
Hey Greg,
Look up north to the metro area that had the third-lowest unemployment rate in the nation for October... it's kind'a the "Austin, Texas" of the central plains. You could probably find some good work there.
Good luck!
Sincerely,
yoshiki
I was informed that long hair on Men is "socially unacceptable" here in Texas by a few people.
Hi Greg,
Sorry, I meant a little further up north, north of the boarder of Texas - do some Googling to find out the place (I don't want to give it straight out, sorry). I was using Austin as a comparison... I heard that Austin is about as hip of a place as you can in "The Lone Star State". This other small city I was mentioning, hippies still roam the streets in one form or another :p .....
In any case, still wishing you good luck in finding the right place ^_^ ... relocation can be a hard thing to do :o !
Sincerely,
yoshiki
well, how about a hint?
does it start with a "D"?
if it does, I think I already located it when I googled it.
Ho Greg,
Nope, the city starts with a "L" and is named after one of the nation's great presidents.
SIncerely,
yoshiki
I googled it, but I don't think it is the one because the only town in Texas named after a President who's name started with L is closer to Austin and the one with the same name is way up in Oklahoma.
you indicated North of Dallas or near or North of the border of Texas.
Can't you just give me the name?
Is this city in Texas or Oklahoma?
what is the nearest major city?
Hi Greg,
Yeah, sorry, I had you going around in circles... I'll just give it straight out :p . It's a bit further north than that - Lincoln, Neb. The Wikipedia article has some lame picures of the city, in my opinion, but some things about Lincoln recently:
*#2 U.S. City, Quality of Life
(The Gallup-Healthways Well-Being Index, 2011)
*Lincoln Public Schools was ranked 2nd in quality of education in an eight-state area of the Midwest. In fact, Lincoln maintains the 4th highest percentage of graduating high school seniors in the nation.
*4th Best Place to Raise a Family
(Children's Health, 2009)
*Top 10, America's Most Livable Cities
(Forbes.com 2010)
*3rd Best City for Babies
(Parents 2010)
*5th Best Place for Business and Careers
(Forbes.com, 2010)
*Top 10 College Town, Top 100 Place to Live
(relocateamerica.com, 2010)
*Lincoln's health care costs are among the lowest in the nation and according to a study by Milliman & Robertson, Inc., Nebraska businesses pay among the lowest in employee-paid insurance coverage.
*Top 10 Best Places to Retire - Place to launch a second career
(U.S. News & World Report, 2012)
...among others recently. This is the shortlist I could find. Not too bad of a city to live, been there a few times.....
Anyways, once again, good luck on your search and hope you find the right place eventually ^^ !
Sincerely,
yoshiki
BTW, Sorry for my poor grammar in my last message :/ ...
Relocating to Lincoln (LCC)
I would there are many guys with Buzz cuts/short hair that have been unemployed for a long time.
Cutting your hair is not a guarantee you'll be hired.
I've never been there in my life, but the received wisdom seems to be that Texas is not long hair friendly except for Austin
Hi Greg,
I've never been to Texas but have read lots of feedback on this board and kind of conclude that longhair on a guy isn't exactly welcome there.LOL.Guess it makes the buzzcut guys uneasy for whatever reason. If your up for moving around I'd try the NY/NJ area as I can safely say there are clearly employed longhaired guys around here:)I travel around to businesses for my work and do see them.I just don't know what the unemployment rate currently is here but I see people out and about dumping money on stuff to no end! Also the restaurants are packed on weekends so somebody has money to spend.Good luck in your search.Cheers
Mark
It's good to know they're not executing longhairs down in Texas yet.
Geography has a lot to do with it, but I commend you for choosing to move before cutting your hair and sacrificing part of who you are!
