I've got a guy friend with really long, curly, somewhat poofy hair (nearly waist-length) and he's looking at getting it changed a bit.
He hasn't gotten it cut or trimmed at all for 4 years, so it's looking a little rough. He's going in sometime soon to get it cut.
Any styles other than "long hair" though? I'm trying to come up with ideas for him, but when I search Google, "long hair for males" is usually not even touching the shoulders, and the only super long hair styles I've seen are in a ponytail, braided, or down.
Thanks!
I'm a fan of the half-tail. Basically, everything up front and above the ears gets put in a high ponytail, while any hair behind and below the tops of the ears is left loose.
I call this the "Legolas" whenever I wear it. Along that line, you could braid your bangs into two ropes and then tie them back. This works particularly well for hair parted down the middle.
i'm a really big fan of the top knot
What really bothers me is that you state "he's going in soon to get it cut". There are any number of ways he can wear his hair without resorting to such an unforgivable act as cutting it, just look at Hairfreaky or Sampsoneh. They both have extremely long hair and can be seen in their videos wearing their hair in a most magnificent long braid that anyone would be envious of. MrKino1990 also has a video showing him putting his long hair in a bun that looks great. Or perhaps even wearing in under a turban once in a while - like a sikh does - just for convenience sake. And Silkylonghairguy has a number of videos showing his gorgeous long hair in a number of styles.
Another solution - besides cutting - might be to straighten his hair so it isn't so "poofy" as you said. I'm talking about one of those rotating hot iron hair straighteners you see advertised that straighten, unfrizz and unpoof hair and make it silky smooth. He may end up having hair like Henrik Gennert and not be interested in wearing it any other way but just flowing down. You can see videos of Henrik's beautiful long hair at the address below.

Staightening is a bad idea for anything longer than shoulder length, because it is too damaging.
How about braids? There are endless resources on the web about many different braiding techniques. Hundreds, actually. Braids look especially great on very long hair.
