I'm new to the board as of a couple days ago and this is my first post.
I've been growing my hair out for a couple years now and its a few inches past shoulder length. I'd been getting professional haircuts a couple times a year until about a year ago, when I decided that I lose too much length that way. After a year of no haircuts I'm starting to think I need to even it up a bit since the proportions were chosen for a radically different length.
I was thinking of using the "pony tail method" (http://www.long-healthy-hair-advisor.com/trim-your-own-hair.html) which basically involves putting one's hair into a pony tail and trimming the longest hairs. However, I see that Bill Choisser, who I've depended on for a lot of longhair knowledge, says not to do that (http://www.choisser.com/longhair/three.html). He does not give a reason.
I work in a business professional environment, so I almost always wear my hair in a pony tail to work and that is the appearance that matters most to me. I was hoping you'd all have some advise regarding why I might not want to use this "pony tail method" and what methods work for you. Thanks.
