I do not like the way this site puts this site down.
there is a lot of useful information on this site imho regarding hair care.
why is it that they do not attack a long hair forum for women like this?
and the whole 'guitar center' as if we are incapable of doing anything else?

Every once in a while you'll stumble upon a forum or an online community that is so specific, so insane, so completely ridiculous that you are forced to conclude that you have reached the end of the Internet. Sure, you may continue on your merry clicking way, but you do so with the deep-seated feeling that there is nowhere else to look; you have seen everything the Internet could possibly hope to provide. Here are the eight online communities that killed our adventurous spirit, made us sure that we'd seen everything the online world has to offer, and even more certain that we didn't want to try to find anything more depressingly fascinating.

Ice Chewers (icechewing.com)
What it is
A place for people who really, really like to chew ice.
Excerpt that Sums Up the Community In A Nutshell
Subject: Newbie - A Chewer for Almost 10 Years
Hey all,
I randomly found this forum and I think it's comforting, in a way, to see so many people who eat ice as much as I do. I started when I was 14, just crunching on huge cubes straight from the tray. People commented on my strong teeth & jaws. Razz From there I downsized to more manageable-sized cubes, and softer ones, too (like crushed ice). I found ice would/can be a good replacement for crunchy food like chips and pretzels, and I tend to resort to a tall glass of ice after a big meal. My teeth have taken a battering from it (I don't tell my dentist I chomp cubes) but I plan on getting crowns on a few fillings that have chipped away...and then abstaining from ice. It's my only bad habit (don't smoke, don't do drugs, etc) but...it's hard to quit!
Why It Makes Us Uncomfortable
We like ice as much as anyone else, but c'mon. It's ice. Going by Bob Saget's standard for addiction in Half Baked-which states that you must have sucked dick for your coveted good-ice is probably the least addictive thing out there. If you've ever sucked dick for ice, we're pretty sure that means you just really wanted to suck that dick. Just go order a soda. We can almost guarantee you there'll be some ice in there.
It doesn't even really taste like anything, anyway-but don't tell them that.

Men's Long Hair Hyperboard (mlhh.org)
What it is
A "hyperboard" (how old is this site, anyway?) for men to discuss growing, washing, brushing, and wearing long, luxurious locks. Many of the posts take on a defiant tone and mention things like "fighting the good fight," which, we assume, means not getting a haircut.
Excerpt that Sums Up the Community In A Nutshell
Subject: Dry hair - I need your help!
Hello all,
i have a big problem. My hair look shiny and pretty healthy but... when I touch it , it feel darmaticaly DRY ! especialy on the end.
i have tried many things but didn't worked...
here is my routine:
gently brushing my hair before washing it -> baby shampoo (that must'nt be hard wuth hair right ?) -> a lot of conditioner -> cold rinse -> towel dry a bit -> hair dry.
once dry i put a small amount of olive oil in my hair and i gently finger comb and brush my hair gently.
You who have soft hair please help me :(
Why It Makes Us Uncomfortable
There is something just a little off about these guys and their fixation on growing their hair out. To make things worse, they seem to see themselves as waging some sort of imaginary war against a sea of "squares" (read: people who don't rock long hair) who, in all honesty, couldn't care less about these dudes or their immaculately-maintained manes. Plus, does anyone really associate long hair on guys with rebellion anymore? Usually it just means they work at Guitar Center.

for the record, I see nothing strange about this community and I think those who are in charge of this site should have a word with the person who wrote that!
http://www.cracked.com/article_15250_wtf21-8-strangest-communities-web.html
eh, who cares what they think? This site lives it's mission out well: to offer a community and support for those with long hair or those who wish to have long hair. Now if some reason they find that odd, well, that's their prerogative to find it odd. 'in the end their opinions matter not, and likely will have no influence over anyone with longhair.
Keep your hair growing long, wear it proudly, and all the rest will work itself out..
Jeremy
To be completely honest, I found this rather funny instead of enraging. Sure some of the posts can seem awkward or strange to most people, but it's because they're conditioned differently. It goes back to the whole indoctrination of how a man should look to others rather than himself. I'm sure they have some skeletons in the closet they keep to a small collective group of people.
I never heard of the comparison with Guitar World. Hell, I'd be inclined to work there just because I love listening to and playing music so much. It is more unique than the generic "you look like a girl/homosexual/hippy" comment.
Long story short, learn to laugh at yourself and to ignore the criticism of others. Don't take it seriously, rather, take it as encouragement to keep growing out your hair.
Man, stop posting that kind of stuff here. We don't need to know about people who hate long hair, as we are already aware of it. Let them talk about our hair, you only get offended if you want to, and the writer of this article is like a lot of people, they don't understand the joy of having long hair. Maybe we don't understand the joy of short hair as well, who knows? Each person knows what works for them, so let them be and let them hate, let's keep on going. And find something more interesting to do, wear your hair with pride and stop paying attention to what other people think about it, it's toxic to keep thinking too much to what people say about you, ok. Live as you want to.
And please, that was HIGHLY hipocritical. You complain about people hating on our long hair and suggests that is okay to do on girls who have long manes? They love their hair as much as we love ours, and I read your other post about people who like to watch girls getting their heads shaved.
"I am just having a hard time grasping this sort of fascination of seeing women stripped of their beauty and made to look ugly[...]"
Then why, in the first place, you ask "why is it they they not attack a girls long hair forum?" ? That kind of crap really can ruin the day of some people, and you know, that makes them actually look bad. Because some idiot told them they aren't pretty. And you got to believe you are pretty so someone can see it. Especially about women, women can shine when you compliment them, yet bashing them might be really bad.
Imo, that's all I have to say. You get riled up beacuse you want to. Please don't try to get ourselves riled up because we have other problems to care, you know. And stop giving a crap about the opinion of everyone else.
To the board, sorry if I was rough, it happens when I put down my thoughts.
Dear hug to you all, and sorry for the long post. Keep on rocking your manes with pride.
Not at all. He's saying either all long-haired people should be persecuted, or none should; anything else is sexism.
First of all, I sort of get a kick out of this article, and generally love the material on Cracked.com for its unabashed humor.
More importantly, why do you allow yourself to get so upset over the opinions of others? Seems to me you're missing out on one of the most important lessons a man can learn by growing his hair long in today's society.
But what do I know? Maybe I've just forgotten what it's like to have too much spare time and nothing better upon which to focus my time and energy. Life is too short to allow one's experience of it to be so easily and drastically affected by the opinions of others. As others have stated, below, it would be appreciated if you'd stop trying to create feelings of anger and distress at the MLHH. This isn't a militant community; we're here to provide support, advice, and positivity for guys who have or who are trying to grow long hair.

Hi Val,
Well I have to say another splendid response to another thread that actually was making my eyes glaze over trying to read.lol.I couldn't agree more as this looks like a case of one having too much time on their hands. However I'm with you as life is way to short getting worked up over what other people think.I'll worry about myself and let others worry about themselves. Also well said about the mission of mlhh:)Cheers
Mark
Mmhmm. *whatever*
On the other hand, it is publicity that will put MLHH's presence in front of at least a few people looking to grow their hair out (in defiance of social norms)...which is a good thing.
Also, women's hair boards get mocked too, although, being more socially acceptable, less publicly.
Personally, I think you are pretty narrow if you think MLHH is the end of the internet...there are many (much more) narrowly focused internet groups out there...without even exploring Rule 34.
...yawn...
Yup, read that article like a year or two ago. Infact I posted it on here. That said, think about it. This is a site where a bunch of dudes talk about hair. This site IS weird as shit.
I'm sorry to be so blunt about it, but dude you need to stop bitching. Yea, long hair isn't the norm, won't be for a long time, and a lot of people are against it. Stop worrying about how mainstream we are and just enjoy the fact that we're different. We challenged a rule of society, and that's why this site exists on the first place. If you want to be more accepted, then move to where long hair is more prevalent, move into the jungle by yourself, or just cut your hair and stop complaining. Anyone will tell you I'm the last person to suggest a haircut to someone, but dude if you can't fly the freak flag proud then why do you have it in the first place.
Rant over.
Anyone will tell you I'm the last person to suggest a haircut to someone, but dude if you can't fly the freak flag proud then why do you have it in the first place.
That's assuming that he even is a longhair!
OK, now rant over:)
OMG, I've only heard that said to me once. A bunch of Hispanic kids drove by me giving me the "thumbs up" and yelled out, "Hey, man, keep that freak flag flying!" I got a chuckle out of it, knew what it meant, but it was the first time I've ever heard the expression.
In retrospect, I think one of the guys had a long ponytail. As far as the silly websites, you have to let it roll off your back. That is one of the many things being a longhair is about.
But I didn't want to make that accusation towards someone
Mark,
That's an ignorant statement especially coming from you and it sounds like you are making accusations that I am not a Man with Long hair(notice I do not refer to myself as a "longhair" which I find very offensive). now unless you can prove that I do not have long hair(currently shoulder length and sorry, I do not post pics of myself online) you owe me a big Apology.
Hey, good point! This site is positively Jurassic! But that is part of its charm. Like Jarvis said, "This site IS weird as shit". Yeah, we KNOW it's eccentric and I think most people here wouldn't have it any other way.
Am I "riled" by their comments? Hell no! If mainstream clones wanna mock a bunch of guys for daring to have the imagination and courage to be different, let them mock away. I think WE have got the last laugh. ;)
It's only humour, nothing vindictive. Chill, dude!

Unfortunately, we can't save them all. Let them think of us what they want. If being boxed in by societal norms pleases them, well, let them wallow in it.
My friend!
Don't let that site get under your skin. The last time I allowed that to happen, it was the Westboro Baptist Church's "God Hates Fags" site. I put so much energy into such a negative campaign against them that I had to sit down and re-evaluate my priorities. Is this worth your energy. I think not.
As for being a longhair, you must realize that long hair does not assign qualities to you, either positive or negative. But, a longhair does rethink his own values and is often finding opportunities to raise his consciousness. Just remember that and you will deserve your hair!
Well I can honestly say that I got a bit of a laugh out of their review of Men's Long Hair Board and didn't find it offensive. I laughed at their ignorance and obvious conservative sheep thinking. The joke was on them not on us!
I save my anger for things that really matter: at the offensive and criminal behaviour of politicians worldwide who take us for fools. I am angered by the erosion of human rights/democracy and the lack of accountability by the corporate and political "elite". It is a great pity that governments didn't use the big welfare payout to big business in the Wall street collapse to actually take control over industry and I believe the interests of the 99% come first over the measly 1%. This is public money which should be going to support the ordinary taxpayer not these greedy predatory parasites.
Duncan
Woo hoo, tell it Duncan! I'm with ya.
Cracked is based off of ignorant humor, that's why it's funny
It's an old article and we've had something like this conversation before.
I think they are trying to say that long hair isn't cutting edge anymore, but so what? The norm is still short, like it has been for maybe a hundred years.
Cracked is not exactly the greatest repository of sparkling wit either. More like low humour. So, the adage to apply here is - consider the source!
I've gotten past what other people think of me. I didn't grow my hair out for them, anyway. So, if I should be "riled up" here, no dice. Not even close.
