I live with (and work for) a family at the moment. The two young sons don't appreciate my long hair, but the older members of the family tend to admire it.
I had a goatie-type beard until today, when I shaved it off clean. It looks a bit scrappy and I have a job interview coming up, so it was best to shave it. (I can't accomplish much in the beard department, I'd rather it be respectable).
The oldest boy, as well as a friend of mine, actually, noticed that I shaved it and commented that I looked better with the goatie! These are both people that have mentioned I should cut my long hair.
So it just goes to show - just because they suggest you shave off some hair (be it beard or head hair), doesn't mean they'd actually like how it looks! Everybody should stick up for what they believe!
[I'm not saying that the opinion of such judgemental people is welcome, but I thought I'd share my story].
Have a nice day!

Of course long hair and beards look better - that's how we're designed to look! Most people are conformists and follow any trend even if it's ugly. During your interview process try not to "kiss booty" too much. Smarter employers hire longhairs.
