Hi everyone,
I love Joao David's website - so much information and many good pictures :D. His website inspired me to make one of my own. It's a bit similar, a bit different... couldn't really come up with a better name, but it's all kind of the same subject matter :p . Mine could never match his, especially since I've just begun my long hair journey, but it's unique milestone in my life that I'd like to share all-the same ;) .
Right now the site is very bare bones - not much to it... maybe will grow over time. Would you guys mind if you have a look at it to see if there are any blaring mistakes I made & need to fix - especially since this is a new world to me :p ? The address is below...
Thank you in advance for any comments - good or bad ^_^ ! Have a great night ^^ !
Sincerely,
yoshiki
Hi yoshiki,
Just finished looking at your site and have to say it looks great for just starting out.Gotta love the "made with Mac"disclaimer as I assume you had some Mac software for making web pages? Overall it looks well layed out and I like the slideshow part showing your updates in sequence.I'm sure as you build on it the more interesting it will be for visitors.Maybe you can add a visitors sign in page just for fun:)Anyway my two cents says job well done my friend!Cheers
Mark
Hi Mark,
Yeah, that's my next biggest project - working on a guestbook. It's going to take some work before it's up ~o~ ... 12-some years ago, when I used to make websites for fun, HTML was king and it used to take weeks to make a website :p . Now there's php, javascript, all kinds of stuff that would take too long for me to learn at this age in life. Somehow, though, I gott'a figure out how to make this square peg guestbook fit into a round hole :p .....
Oh well, that's what iWeb for the Mac is for, I guess... hopefully I can get a guestbook up sooner than later :p . It only took me three nights to make this one the way it was, so it shouldn't take too much longer :D ...
It'll be interesting to see where the website goes from here. Thanks for the compliments and suggestion :) !
Sincerely,
yoshiki
Hi Yoshiki,
You are off to a nice start; but I do feel strongly about one important aspect of a hair-related website:
I do NOT enjoy seeing the back of someone's head only -- if a person is unwilling to show their face (including the different stages of hair growth, and how it changes a person's appearance as seen from the front, including that person's face), then I feel there's something greatly lacking and of little interest to me.
I'm not trying to do any website-baashing or be negative here; but you asked for feedback, so this is what I honestly think about it.
If you click on my avatar portrait pic in the upper left-hand corner of my reply here, it will take you to my introductory page that eventually goes to my Hair Page... Yes, it is kind of dorky / corny / loony-tunes; but I had a lot of fun putting it together, thanks to my friend Bill Choisser (who used to be the Head Tech guy here at MLHH, and a long-time Moderator, as well as amazing web designer). I haven't updated it in a long long time, as all of those pics are from '04; but at least people can see basically what I look like from many different angles (sorry sight that I am - LOL)....
Many other guys here have hair-related websites, which you can also go to by just clicking on their avatar pics; so hopefully you'll gain other helpful ideas from them as well...
Please keep us posted!

Trouble is, not all of us are as good looking from the front as you Ken :-)
LOL, you are all too kind -- that, and maybe you also need a new prescription for your glasses!
[wink!]
I agree with you Ken. Why not show one's long hair from the front - with pride!
That's a great start and good to have a record of your progress that can inspire others.
Hi Ian,
Thank you ^_^ ! Actually, I think it was you who first mentioned something about recording progress to me about over half a year ago ;D .....
Sincerely,
yoshiki
Great start to a site. I agree with Ken on having face pictures and would add maybe make two progress albums; one showing progress from the front, and the other showing it from the back. Maybe go into more detail on brushes and combs. Bit you'll full it in as the site ages. Like I said though, great start so far!
Hi Jarvis,
Thank you for the suggestions... I think I'll definitely put in a little blurb in about combs very soon - that seems to be very lacking, and fill out the rest as I can as time goes on :) . Many thanks on that one ^^ !
SIncerely,
yoshiki
Hello Yoshiki =)
First of all, congratulations on making a website! It looks very good so far! You'll see you'll figure out what you want to make of it as times goes by and your "hair journey" progresses.
I am very flattered that you felt ispired by my website, and very happy, that what I made it for, to inspire others and show how great and possible it is to have long hair. I now have it somewhat in standby for several reasons unfortunatly, and partly because there is not much new to my journey. But I assure you it's very fun when you create your own website!
I noticed Ken mentioned about showing your face. Ulimatly, I guess it's up to you. When I first started posting on webforums and when I opened my site I used to have pictures of my face. It didn't bring me a good exerience though. It's not something I want to share so openly and actually, although the hair alters the way your face looks, if it's a hair site, people don't need to see my face. So I guess it's up to you and your comfort with it =)
I wish you the best luck with your hair and with your site! Keep up the good work ^^
João David
Hi Joao David,
First of all, my apologies that I haven't yet figured out how to correctly add the ~ above the a in Joao! I want to spell your name correctly (as well as KNOW how to spell it correctly); but just don't apparently know the secret of how to put the two items together when I type!
Anyway, that issue aside...
Re. taking pics from the front, revealing someone's face: I often forget the fact that for younger guys, there is sometimes a problem that us older guys rarely have any trouble with. Once you get to be an old geezer of my age, "secret admirers" are few and far between -- and thus, any crazy or annoying fan mail (or worse: potential stalkers and/or sleazy, cunning trolls) are just non-existant.
Whatever your negative experience was that happened as a result of revealing too much of your face, I humbly am sorry to hear about -- as well as apologize for forgetting about that possibility.
It's always nice to hear from you, Joao, and as always, thank you so much for your contributions over the years to MLHH -- your perspective and comments are invaluable!

Having had a hair website myself (I do still have a hair blog), I can understand this concern. I've gotten some, shall we say, interesting messages from it but I've found them more amusing than anything else.
I guess it's important to post in a way that's comfortable for you.
"Interesting" is always a safe and very diplomatic word for a variety of other words that I often wish I had the guts to be more blunt about saying... Hmmmm, I can think of a few colorful substitutes that I'd bet you can relate to, Jason, while still remaining SOMEwhat tactful here (LOL), like:
1) "Wack-o?"
2) How about this one: "Eeewwww!"
3) or this: "You've GOT to be kidding!"
4) or, just happily pressing the "delete" button!
Yep, there's a lot of "interesting" people out there!
- Ken (who at times might be one of 'em - LOL)
Hi Ken and Jason,
I'll reply to you both here since you both addressed the same thing in two different places - hope you don't mind ^_^ . This was something that I was originally going to mention in my next update, but since it's been brought up here, might as well tell why I usually don't show my face...
Ken somewhat hit in on the head, although I don't have any "secret admirers" :p . Actually, I would love to show my face, but because I work in a middle school, and middle schools/Jr. Highs are notorious breeding grounds for gossip, rumors, cyber bullying and the like... think the movie "Mean Girls" (although I've never seen the movie, just the preview - wasn't impressed), I really wouldn't like face floating around out there with the possibility of some splinter group at school coming across it and saying, "Oh, Mr. so-and-so posts pictures of himself on the internet for other guys to see," or something like that. There can be some really twisted people sometimes, especially when things are different. No offense to anyone here, of course ^_~ .....
Also, if Human Resources ever came across my pictures, I wonder what they would think :o . They are always threatening us about facebook the way it is, since we represent the schools and parents can always see everything about us.
One morning when I was walking up to the school, one girl quickly flipped out her phone to take a picture while I was still the street, thinking I couldn't see. I just stared her down until she put it away. Who knows what she would have used the photo for, so just to be safe, I'd just prefer to keep my face hidden for now and hopefully be known as a nice guy on the board. I'm sorry to everyone that I do otherwise, but I'm kind of in a difficult position :( .
Thank you, though, for the suggestion and I'll reconsider once I'm no longer with the schools :) (or of the budget cuts are as bad as they say they are next year >< .....)! Also, thank you for understanding ^_^ !!!
SIncerely,
yoshiki
Hi yoshiki,
That was a very well stated reply regarding posting of ones face on the internet.Being you are involved in a school system I can hardly blame you for not wanting to open yourself up to any blackmail, say from the students?I can imagine how creative the younger generation is regarding web usage and if someone wanted to cause you grief why make it too easy for them.I would prefer a face pic with your hair but your reasoning is really on the money.Too bad it has to be like that but it's life.Anyway your web site has great potential and I hope you have much fun with it my friend:)Cheers
Mark
Sorry if it seemed long-winded ~_~ .....
Sincerely,
yoshiki
Very valid points. Better to be safe than sorry, err on the side of caution, and so forth! You should do whatever you're comfortable with, and this site is indeed about hair rather than face :)
Hi João,
First of all, I'm humbled by your message :D ! Thank you for giving me inspiration not only to make a website but to perhaps grow out my hair to classic length, too, one day ^^ (if I'm not too old for it by now ~_~ heh).....
It's true, I really don't have much to put on my website now, but as my journey progresses, I will find more to put on there... as many have proven, there's a ton of stuff you can do with hair :D !
Thank you, also, I like that philosophy about not showing your face - do whatever you're comfortable with :) . That's what a person needs in life after all, is to be comfortable and happy with what he or she does... George Burns said so himself ;p .
About your journey - I think that you should still occasionally post progress photos on your website, because even though you're at classic length, you're hair will continue to get thicker and fuller... perhaps even longer as time goes on, so why not give the people who follow you a tidbit every now and then :) ?
Anyways, thank you so much once again for your message - keep it growing and growing :D ! Please keep in touch, too, if you don't mind ;) .....
Sincerely,
yoshiki
