A winter road trip to...umm, drop off crosscut saws with my sharpener in Calpine. Yeah, right! True, I did drop off a pile of saws with Dolly, but it was the excuse for a winter excursion. The Tioga Road was open for the first time ever after January 1st, and when else would I get a chance to explore the High Country in midwinter without cross country skis or snow cover? And, as it happened, bring a friend to the glories of Yosemite and the East Side!
So: Tuolumne Grove of Giant Sequoias, Olmsted Point, (frozen) Tenaya Lake, (frozen) Dana Fork Tuolumne River, (frozen) Ellery Lake, (frozen) Lee Vining Falls, Mono Lake South Tufa, Panum Crater, Travertine Hot Springs, and the grandeur of high desert backroads on the California/Nevada border!

Hi trolleypup,
Wow, just got through working my way through all the pics you took and have to say what an amazing place that is you visited.Really an interesting piece of nature quite unspoiled by the masses.Maybe that's because its winter and the cold keeps them at bay.Looks like a great place for a longhair meet up as your mane looks great with that backdrop.I imagine that spot is quite far from the SF bay area presumably far inland.Anyway thanks for sharing your pics.Your mane is just as amazing as that natural beauty my friend.Cheers
Mark
The road trip really was a cross section of the glory and grandeur of eastern California...not perhaps the most perfect examples of all the places, but fine examples withal.
Quite uncrowded, but even at high season it isn't too crowded...the masses mostly stop within the park and the East Side is rarely busy...so many interesting places, many of them out on dirt roads.
Unspoiled...welll...it is Mono Lake...still 33 feet lower than before LA started diverting the streams coming in.
And yes, Mono Lake is about 4 hours drive inland from SF.
what a location to show off that manificent mane! All the shots are spectacular, Ian
Hi Trolleypup,
As always, you post the most awesome photos, and always seem to have access to the most beautiful locations on the planet! I have never been to California, and I sure hope that I have the opportunity to get there some day.
Thanks for sharing,
David
Sorry about the misspelled URL.
This is the view from one of the pools at the hot spring we visited.

Damn, Robert, you got to see Yosemite in winter with little snow. I think they said the last time that happened was in the 1930's. Lucky you!
Bill
Well, the road was built in the 30s, and has never been open later then January 1st (probably fairly similar conditions)...so travel in or before the 30s was pretty moot!
You are lucky; you have splendid hair; i should like that my hair reaches down my knees; but i think it will be difficult;
Congratulations, and let it grow; it makes to dream me and everybody who loves long hair

Wow, just beautiful ~ the photos and you!!! :) Looks like a very peaceful place. I'm glad you were able to visit it, and thanks so much for sharing! :)
It feels much more peaceful in the winter, a combination of there not being tourists all about, no breeze or wind (and driven sand and salt, not being blazing hot. Also I don't think I've been there at dusk before.
Thanks for sharing your trip.....looks like a great adventure....and needless to say, I am still envious of your locks.
Again Thank You
Walter
EXCELLENT photos there, Trolleypup!! It's a toss-up between you and Bill re. who tends to take the best scenic Calif pics on MLHH -- regardless, I love 'em all, and thank you very much for sharing!
I haven't been to Mono Lake or Yosemite (especially in the High Country) in ages... It's amazing to remind myself of just how close-by all that astounding natural beauty is.
Thanks also for the fun hair pics update -- or should I even call it "update?"
In any case: thanks for sharing your most recent hair pics, along with your scenic road trip pics, they are all truly outstanding!!

You're welcome!
California is so perfect for road trips...back for one week, and I am envious of a friend who is tooling around on the north coast at the moment!
The conditions just turned out to be good for hair pictures...I wasn't expecting it to be calm and comfortable at Mono Lake (even though the air temp was probably in the low 30sF)...and once I'd finger combed it out, I couldn't resist taking hair pictures at the hot spring the next morning with it fully preened...sadly, I also couldn't resist getting into the spring first, so the pictures aren't posted on public boards (except for the shadow pics).
Ah, I'm not calling it an update, unless I can claim knee length.
The North Coast is my all-time favorite hang out on the planet, and the one area I keep going back to spend vacation time over & over again, regardless of the time of year... I never tire of it!
LOL, I got the picture in my mind, at least!
Well, you are "ALMOST" at knee-length -- shouldn't that count for something?
Later,
Ken
Your hair is beautiful!
