I'm back to using coconut oil consistently this month after missing a few months. I've noticed a difference in my hair's health and hope to be more consistent from this point.
I decided to try an experiment to see if I could produce greater braid waves than I usually get. I did a heavy coconut oiling Friday night, left it overnight and then shampooed and conditioned yesterday afternoon. While my hair was still quite wet, I braided it fairly tightly and left it like that overnight. I usually never leave my hair braided at night. I was curious to see what kind of braid waves I would wake up to this morning. I almost never braid my hair while it's still wet either.
This was my hair after I released it from the braid. I didn't manipulate it at all.
I don't recall ever having such pronounced waves! I loved the extra body it produced.
I then ran my fingers through it and they loosened somewhat:
Finally, I braided it lightly again:
and then brushed it through. The waves were still fairly prominent...
For comparison, this was my hair three days ago without the wet braiding/sleeping all night in a braid:
I think I might use this technique occasionally just to try a different look. It might be cool to go out with waves that I don't usually have.
Hi Jason. That looks amazing and I can't wait to give it a go. I would think the longer the hair gets, the more effective it is. I'm with you on the coconut oil, and try to use it at least once a week for an overnight soak. Best regards, ian
...and I remember when...
Hi Jason,
These are outstanding photos, and those waves are awesome! I admit to being rather "lazy", or should I say, "negligent", and haven't practiced braiding in ages. Also, I still haven't tried coconut oil, and wonder where is the best place to find it?
That back yard looks quite familiar, btw!
Take care,
David
Wow!!!! You're hair is looking great.
I love brsids, i've never gotten the knack of doing it myself.
I have to have someone else do it for me.
You've got wonderful hair, and it looks great any which way you decide to wear it. The important thing is that you enjoy it, and if it provides some inspiration to others (and I'm certain it does), then that's just an extra benefit that results from you sharing your photos. Thank you.
HI Jason,
TERRIFIC pics there, and I do the same myself with braiding my own hair when damp -- I love the results (both when the hair is still in a braid, and the waviness that happens after unbraiding)!
The one thing I've found that I try to be careful about is making sure my hair isn't "TOO" damp when about to braid. If I don't let it air-dry enough, I find that the wet hair trapped inside the braid becomes unpleasant, in that the large braided section of hair will never properly dry, resulting in both a "clammy" feel, and also sometimes even a bit of a damp musty sort of odor. However, conversely whenever I attempt to braid my hair when it's completely dry, the results never quite look as neat or as good as it does when braiding damp hair...
Do you add any beneficial oil to your hair ends? I'm asking because I've also found that a light oiling also seems to help me make a better braid than when I don't do any oiling at all.
Take care, Jason -- and again, your hair is looking AWESOME!!!

Thanks for the comments everyone.
Shortly after I posted these photos we were on our way to the hospital. I'd like to introduce our new family member...
Sorry if they're big. I'm just home for a few minutes before returning to the hospital.
Congratulations Jason. I'm sure both you and your wife will make a pair of fine parents for your baby boy. All the best, Duncan
Thanks Duncan. I appreciate the kind words!
Hi Jason!
Congrats :D ! You'll find that fatherhood is a whole new adventure and that what you thought you ever knew is out the window :p heh. Also, beware because babies, once they get old enough, like to pull out hair :/ .....
Congrats again and good luck ^_~ heh!~
Sincerely,
yoshiki
Thanks a lot yoshiki. Fatherhood is already amazing!
Hey, congratulations, Jason. Our son, Stephen is 21 now, but it seems like it was yesterday he was just entering our lives. Drink it all in. These days right now will be in your thoughts forever; Thank God they are, because it's a great, great time you're going to cherish all your lives. Best wishes to everybody.
Steve
Thanks Steve. It was definitely an unforgettable experience!
Hi Jason,
This is awesome news, Jason, and congratulations to you and Amanda!
Congrtulations!
David
Thanks very much my friend!
Thanks so much for sharing such beautiful shots of your new son and best wishes for a wonderful life ahead. Ian
Thank you Ian!

He is precious, Jason. Congratulations on the birth of your new son. May he grow up tall and strong and with a long mane.
Scott
Thank you Scott! I really hope he chooses to have a long mane but he, of course, will be free to make that decision.
WOW, how cool is that!!! I bet that you and Amanda are not only thrilled to pieces, but also destined to be awesome parents, to boot!
A big, warm, heart-felt CONGRATS to you both, Jason -- just watch out, though, because the way kids grow up so fast these days, before you know it he'll be asking to burrow the car keys (LOL)!!!!
Warmest Regards,
Ken
Thanks Ken! I know that there will be a whole new set of challenges when he reaches his teenage years for sure!
Absolutely wonderful Jason - A big congratulations to you and Amanda and a warm welcome to the newest family member!
- Oren
Thank you Oren! I hope everything is going well with you.
If you think it makes your head hair wavey, you should see what it does to beards! When I unbraid my beard for the shower I look like the relief carvings from ancient Babylon. (Don't have a picture, maybe I should do one)
Hi Jason ... WOW = thats a great tip ! = that looks fantastic & I love the colour = I can't wait to be that length: (maybe 2 more years to go) - I find it hard to braid myself especially the fringe braid on top which falls over un-braided hair + I have many layers: ( which doesn't help ) = great pics = love them !!
