I recently took a position as docent giving tours at an historic site. We are required to wear 1930's period costume and during the interview it was mentioned that my long hair was an asset !!
My character is a 1930's government surveyor...
Great news for you, but makes no sense. Government workers in the 30s with long hair?? Glad you have a revisionist boss!
Makes great sense. actually. Government surveyors were sometimes in the field for months at a time. It was the depression and folks just did not spend money on fancy things like haircuts. In very rural and sometimes yet mapped areas, even the locals sported long hair. Perhaps not pmytail length. but shpoulder length was not uncommon. and it would be "slicked back" with whatever lotions and creams were avalable or madeat home. Look at picures of some of the guys in the CCC and WP camps. Very few crew cuts. My grabdfather was awarded contracts to build campground structures and cabins in the OZarks and many pics of the guys then have them with full heads of hair, usually under hats. but there. It was just in the cities and in Hollywood that the shorter and greased back styles were popular. (and even there, there were exceptions.
Great! Glad to see that you can have a cool job and long hair.
Hey Walter, you look great as that is the first pic of you I've seen since before you departed for the great middle east!Wow has that time flew as I met you in person just months before you departed if I recall correctly.Being you survived that experience this job should be a cakewalk:)Couldn't think of a more fun job after such an adventure.Cheers my friend.

Hmm, maybe I could apply to be a medieval tour guide then? I was a tour guide once for a farm. It was fun, easy work and you get to meet new people. It's great!
Hey White Tail,
Congrats on your new job!
I am a New Mexican. I have a degree in history. My hair is about 5 1/2 in. long and growing. Is there a possibility that we might connect?
Your long haired bro,
Raymond
Sounds like fun.
