I want to thank you all for your support as I went into military school. While I look like a baldie I'll always be a longhair at heart. Some of the other guys in my room had longhair so they know what I'm going through. We sit arounnd in our army tighty whitys before light out and share our long hair stories. My girlfriend is now seeing my best friend. I knew it might happen but life goes on.
Hi Larry,
Glad to hear you're making the best of the present situation, even though I'm sure it's still a difficult one.
If you scroll down to your first posted thread, Bill's reply about Gulag schools is an interesting read, and hopefully you'll find his as well as others' comments helpful.
Besides forming important new friendships at this school, which should be a great help, I hope you also focus on your grades. I left home at age 18 myself because of not getting along with my dad when I was a teen, including over hair length disagreements. This decision cost me my college education, which in hindsight, I wish I could have completed -- even though I did the best I could under the stressful set of circumstances at that time in my life.
People who do well in school tend to get better-paying jobs as adults -- which in turn, give you more freedom & power to be your best self, and to make the changes you'd most like to make happen in the world.
Hang in there, and as others have said, I hope you continue to make the best of this current difficult situation.
My best to you!!

Ken, it's amazing how life and years of experience can make us more tolerant and less resistant about some things. I'm about to turn 48 years old in May and when I think of how unflexible I was when very young I realize how much time I wasted. Hug! ;-)
Well Larry I'm sure after you settle in your school the shock of having your long hair cut to a buzzed look you will be a little more accepting. To bad you can't have long hair in military school, I hate seeing a guy with long hair get a severe clip job. The good think your hair will grow back and you can have it as long as you want when you are on your own.

I was asking myself why your posts made me want to start posting again. I guess it's because I was in private school for 3 years for grades 4-6 because I didn't do well in public school.
It wasn't a boarding military school but it was a religious school which had its own weirdness. I actually liked it better than public school when I was there.
You also bring back a lot of memories of how things worked when I was a kid. Military school was threatened in our house; but never carried out.
People cycled out of military school sometimes and returned to public. They are private schools and they cost money. That can limit the duration of your stay.
whaddyalookin here 4
That was the same way with me when I was a kid. Almost everything that came up, my dad would threaten to send me to military school, in hopes of intimidating me in some way. Never happened.
What do you mean with "My girlfriend is now seeing my best friend"? You meant dating him???
She only wants to date guys with long hair- since I'm in military school- bald and no moustache she and my longhaired 'friend' are now a couple. I'm more mad at him than her.
Sorry to hear that Larry, but I think they deserve each other. She didn't love you and he doesn't sound as a best friend at all.
How many years you have to stay in the Military School?
In a few years you'll be freedom to be whatever you decide to be. Long or shorthaired, make sure you'll get happy with your decision. I know it sucks when somebody decides for us what is best for us, but be sure that your parents did what they think is the best for you now. Be patient, try to get used to the environment you're in now, and when you get your freedom back you decide what to do with yourself. Good luck!
I am terribly sorry to hear that, Larry. Take heart, though, because if your ex-g/f and friend can betray you, they will ultimately betray each other. What they did to you was the measure of their character.
On top of it all, you will be free again to grow out your hair. Just make the best of your time at the 'stalag' and make good marks in all your subjects.
