Hey guys, This is how I wear a bandanna. I trim two of the side points off of it to make a long strip of fabric, leaving two of the points of the bandanna as is. (that's the part you tie in the back)'Then I fold the two long raw edges of the bandanna into the center, more or less, and fold it again, to have one long skinny tube of fabric, about 2" wide. I like to style my hair with a very neat side part, and pushed behind my ears, and then tie it on snug, folding the ends at the back underneath the band. It usually does ride up on my forehead, so I pull it back down often on the day I wear it. I always wear one on rainy days!
I came up with this because I found rolling up a regular bandanna was too bulky, and would get all soaked with sweat when I was working, or out on the streets in the summer. My headband version is a lot lighter, and dries fast while you wear it.
I pretty much only wear vintage bandannas from the 1960's / 70's , 100% cotton, that I find in thrift shops for a couple of bucks. You can probably find them on Ebay or Etsy also. They're super soft, cotton gauze and have many interesting patterns, way better than the cheap polyester imported bandannas they sell these days.
Hey Joey, that's a cool look with the bandanna. I used to use them during the awkward stage as a way to keep my hair back without using product all the time.
When you're making multiple posts about the same subject, it's best to post the additions as replies to your initial thread rather than start a new thread for each. Thanks.
Thanks Jason, yeah, this awkward stage has been tough going, but I'm determined to grow my hair long, so I never get discouraged. The bandanna really helps.
Thanks for the pointer on multiple posts, I have another post I want to make soon about about my work head wrap, made out of a t-shirt, so I'll use the posting method you suggest. Is there a way to post multiple photos in a single post?
Thanks!
Joey
Indeed there is! HTML scr ipt. The image has to be already online, and you need the adress of just the image (posting it on flikr or a similar sure is the easiest). Just copy and paste the adress inside _______ but remove the *s
It's been a while since I've uploaded multiple pics on here or fooled with web design in general, someone please correct me if I'm wrong.
I know that Photobucket makes it easy. Just copy and paste the IMG tag line that appears with every uploaded photo. You can add as many pictures as you like and insert them anywhere in your posts.
Cool Jason, much appreciated I'll check out both sites.
Keep rockin your long locks!
Joey
Joey
Yeah, I meant photobucket. I write that at 6 in the morning after 10 hours at work and I couldn't remember the right site
Cool Jarvis, Got it!
I took a quick peek at your website - it looks great. I've been thinking about learning acoustic guitar for a while now. I'm left handed, so I don't know what kind of challenges that will bring! A friend of mine has several very beautiful guitars, and I learned a little about the incredible differences in sound and tone each one has. It was a lot of fun, very inspiring.

I've actually been meaning to submit a change to the website and avatar recently seeing as I haven't used that site in like 2 years and the pic is just as old and I look fairly different now. I just haven't had the time or the right picture to do so as of yet. Plus having no computer and doing this from my phone doesn't make it any easier.
Hey Jarvis, yeah, I can sympathize, my computer is ancient, I have no idea how I get it to turn on every day!
joey
Hey Jarvis, Thanks very much! I use Flikr sometimes, but I haven't posted any photos there yet. You have a very cool look!
Joey
Awesome! Now I know how to turn my bandanna into a headband! I think I'll also invest in getting a thin brown head band from Phoenix post. Thanks for sharing. Looking cool man!
-rowie
Hey Rowie, glad you liked my idea, it really makes a difference to have a lighter weight one that dries fast! I saw those thin headbands too, I thought about spraying a little bleach on them to give it a worn look. (but they might turn bright orange!)Black or dark brown paint splattered on them might work too.
I also cut some 1/2" strips of very lightweight brown leather and wrapped that around a few times headband style. It looked great, very old school rocker, but I thought I'd wait till my hair was past my shoulders to wear it that way.
Joey
Cool style and cool mustache
Thanks!! I woke up one morning when I was 16 with that moustache, I finally gave up shaving it off!!
Joey, Cool idea for smaller bandannas. A simple hem along the cut off edges might prevent fraying and make them last longer. A girlfriend, Mom or whoever might be able to help you out with this. Let it grow and flow!
peace, jonalbear
Hey jonalbear, glad you like it. Yeah, I thought about a hem on the edges also, that would be great to make them last much longer. My last girlfriend was when I was in high school, and I think she's still mad at me, so not sure if she's still willing to do the sewing : )
Hi Joey,
I have to say you look great in the bandanna and seem to have wrapping them down to a science.I tried bandannas in the past and never thought they looked good on me.Of course I never had the knack of folding and tying them so that might have been the problem.I mostly wear baseball caps when I need head cover to protect my hair from the elements:)I'd love to have my hair loose all the time but I don't want to spend hours detangling at the end of the day.Anyway great pic as your a longhair natural:)Cheers
Mârk
Hi Mark,
Down to a science is right, ha ha, that's so me. I'm just discovering the terrors of detangling, now that my hair is about 7" long at the top. It doesn't get tangled from walking outdoors (yet!) but it gets very tangled when I wash it. I follow all the wise tips I've read here about how to minimize tangles, but I'm wondering how it will be when my hair is twice as long as it is now! I never knew long hair took so much careful maintenance, but it's absolutely worth it in my book!
Your hair is looking awesome, as always!
