hi all
After reading the FAQ's i decided to try Biotin to promote healthy hair growth...i know this subject has been covered before but i am looking for specific experiences regarding dosage and results.
I have started on 1000 micrograms 3 times a day.....making 3000 micrograms daily.
Am i totally off the mark here?
Ps..loving being back on the MLHH..i miss all of the debate!

I take 5,000 micro grams a day, in one pill. I also take all of the supplements listed at the link below. Of course, each of us is an experiment with a sample of one and no control, so it is impossible to say what works for each of us. ("Your results may vary.") But, they are cheap and even my stylist independently recommended the Biotin.
Amino acid supplements for hair growth
Thanks for that.....i'll continue on the path i have started and see how i go.

I am a staunch advocate of supplementing with biotin, and now take one 5,000mcg capsule daily. In terms of making hair grow faster, the effect is slight but noticeable (approximately 1/8-inch to 1/4-inch extra per month), but shedding seems to be drastically reduced (which also occurred when taking just 1,000mcg daily). My skin and nails also appear healthier when taking biotin, the only downside of which is that my fingernails do grow considerably faster and require more frequent trimming.
It's nice to have you back in the fold, man!

Cheers Val...it's great to be back.....as for the hair growth, as long as there is some benifit in quantity/quality then i'll persevere with my little experiment.
Just bought some 5000 micrograms online which i'll move up to in a month or 2.
How's your hair coming along?...not seen an update for a while?

Hi Scott,
I first started taking biotin at one 1,000mcg pill a day - saw a nice improvement in my hair growth.
Not too long thereafter, I increased it to one 5,000mcg pill a day - saw a huge jump in hair growth. Maybe not as large as maybe some would like to think, but it was really noticeable.
Then after while and & some looking, I increased it to two 5,000mcg pills a day. Again, saw a noticeable increase in hair growth. Not as dramatic, as some of the earlier increases, but it was still there.
I think 10,000's pretty much the limit. I'm pretty happy with the results... and like Validus mentioned, it makes your nails grow and grow thicker like crazy!
I do know they make a 10,000mcg biotin pill, but I think it's better if you break it up into two doses - that is, if you want to go that high ^_~ ...
I also take Omega 3-6-9. Omega 6 is supposed to be good for hair.
Hope this helps and good luck :) !
Sincerely,
yoshiki
I've just bought some 5000mcrogram tablets too...and will scale up accordingly depending on results...I have my omegas and a decent multi-vit. With plenty of water and good rest hopefully i'll maximise results!
Love the hair dude....awesome colour, length and condition

I've been only taking 300mcg. From the feedback here, I'm very tempted to up it at least to 1000. I admit I was scared off a bit by this essay:
Biotin,,,,
Jason, I found that article very interesting.Based on recommendations here I started taking 1000 mcg daily doses
of Biotin probably around a year ago.Since then I picked up a bottle of Nature's Bounty 5000 mcg Biotin caplets that I found on sale at Costco one day. That bottle recommends taking three caplets per day.Honestly after around a year of taking this supplement I can't honestly say it's been a benefit.I know for a fact that my nails grow no faster than before taking it.So with that said I wonder if my hair really is doing better with it.My heaviest shedding usually occurs around the fall months then tapers off to hardly anything shedding. It's been like that with or without Biotin.I'm still waiting for my hair to grow below my a** but sadly I don't see that happening. My hair quality has generally been good but I do take great care of it.After reading that article I'm contemplating scaling back on the Biotin dosages.Maybe even to the point of not taking it once my supply is used up.Believe me, if I felt my hair was really getting longer faster I'd OD on the whole bottle! So all I can say is what my experiences are with it.I will add I don't think I've had any negative affects from excessive Biotin intake.Let me conclude if you think it's helping you then by all means take it, but to me if I'm benefiting I hardly notice any difference.

It should be an interesting experiment, and with my hair being short at the moment a perfect platform on which to measure any changes in hair growth rate.
I'll keep you posted
Cheers

I take one 5mg capsule per day. It does reduce shedding for me.

Thanks Scott...that seems to be the most common dosage according to this board and other research I have done.
Just bought some 5000 microgram tablets which i will move up to accordingly.
Cheers for the advice Scitt...much appreciated!
