My hair is naturally pretty straight with just a little bit of a natural wave, kind of like Jason's hair, from what I can tell. For a while now I've been experimenting with techniques for making it curlier or more wavy. Just for the fun of it and for some variety when I'm wearing it loose. I find that braiding it works well as far as generating waves and if I want really impressive waves I do about ten braids when my hair is damp, leave them in overnight, and voila! Anyway, one of the women I work with suggested washing my hair at night and twisting it into a bun at the top of my head when it is still damp, sleeping with it like that and then taking the bun out in the morning. She said she did that and the result was a lot like she had used rollers to curl her hair. So I tried it. After taking the bun out in the morning I bent over at the waist and "combed" my hair with my fingers. Here's the result. My hair seemed fuller as well as curlier, instead of just wavy. I wore it like this all day and the fluffiness lasted. This might not be for everyone, but I did get a lot of compliments the next day, with women in particular asking how I achieved the look.
Looks great!

I've tried this and it does work. Makes my hair a bit "glam" looking, but definitely thickens it up. I think it protects your hair from getting pulled and straightened as you lie on it. I suppose some wear a hairnet for the same reason.

What's up Jann! I like the results. It's nice to be able to change textures once in a while, and I do that occasionally. If I want "beachy" waves I just do really big braids (for different sections), and I would add a mixture of coconut oil and extra virgin olive oil to my hair (just a little) before braiding my hair into sections. Then the next day, I get more defined waves after finger combing. I avoid a brush or comb when styling because those tools will add to the "puffiness," unless you are going for more volume. I find that with just using my fingers to style it for getting well defined waves, I can get Aragorn's hairstyle from Lord of the Rings.
You have fantastic looking hair that looks like you take good care of it.
happy growing,

Great tip, thanks! My hair is straight and I'd love to have some natural-looking wave in it... people always want what they don't have, eh? Your hair looks great by the way.
