Never really thought of braiding my hair before, so I had my sister show me how. Discovered that my super straight hair takes on a wonderful wavy look if I leave a braid in overnight. After a few times of her showing me I gave it a shot and came out with this.
Hi John,
That's a very nice braid as you did a fantastic job:)Someday I would like to try braiding but I too would fare better if someone actually could show me how to do it in real life.I have a hard time looking at videos that show how its done.Cheers

Hi John,
Congrads! Braiding is a goal more me this year!

Looks great, must be hard to do!!!
great looking braid
Very good, John. Doing a neat braid yourself is not as easy as it looks.
It really is hard to do it myself. and not surprised if others are having trouble. When I was in boyscouts I was a wiz with knots, so I'd tie all the knots then get bored and play with leftover string. I learned how to do the simple 3 strand braid really easy with string and have been good at that for years.
Totally different when the string is hundreds of thousands of hairs and behind you where you can't easily reach or see, but I think my history with braiding string when bored helped me out a ton on this one.
turns out a good braid is a great way to fish for compliments. I work in retail as a salesman and out of 4 months of regular ponytail I only ever got 1 comment of "oh wow, your hair looks really healthy and beautiful" I wear the braid for a week and I've gotten 7 different people telling me how gorgeous my hair looks. and I see roughly 40-100 people a day at work.
Starting from a ponytail is MUCH easier than starting from loose hair!
And yes, a braid will get more attention than a ponytail...i guess because it shows you have some special skills? Of course, if you go much fancier, people will assume someone did it for you. I never have had the skills to do a french braid (given that my hair has been long enough to make french braiding extra difficult anyway, but when I've had them done on me, it is an amazingly secure and good looking style.
I usually wear my hair in a braid, and a few weeks ago, I was paying for gas and as I walked out, a woman in the queue behind me gasped and said, "Your hair looks amazing!" and then blushed. It made my day.
I can do French plaits, but it's almost impossible to get it to look good when doing it on your own hair if it's much longer than mid-back. I learnt how to do braiding years ago because my granny was disabled, but had about 4ft of hair to care for. It's much easier to do someone else's hair than your own, and it's always useful to have another hand to hold things while you brush out the tangles!
It took me an evening to get the hang of a four-strand braid, but after that, it's fairly easy to move on to five-strands, although any more becomes very complicated as you run out of fingers.
wearing french braids is my favorite way to wear my hair. it feels 7 looks great. I had a hard time finding people to do it for me, so i finally found a girl who showed me how she braids her own hair. Then i could figure how to do it. Also, french braids are a good way to wear your hair when its too short to tie in a pony tail. Wayne
I've been trying to do this forever and can't seem to do it.Maybe I'll give it another shot.

That braid is absolutely gorgeous, John. It is super thick, kind of reminds me of the braids on people from India. They have really thick hair. I am trying to visualize what it will look like at waist length. Great update.

Hi John,
What an excellent job with your braid, it really looks good, and I am blown away by how thick your hair is!
Well done!
David
That's some beautiful thick and great hair you've got. You plaited it like a pro. Your sister taught you well.
I learned how to braid my hair by observing girls doing it in school on each other and themselves. I always found it fun to watch and was grateful to ignore the boring lesson being taught.
