Remind me to stay away from mainstream clubs. I went to one with some mates the other night and was dressed in my usual biker jacket, band T-shirt, skinny jeans and studded belt. After a couple of drinks, I was standing by myself in a darkish corner and a guy came up to me. He looked me up and down, and offered to buy me a drink with the comment: "I guess you're not really into this music. You look like a rock chick."
I killed his ardour with the reply: "Err, I'm a dude. Just 'cause I got long hair doesn't mean I developed breasts and a v****a at the same time."
He gulped and wandered away after that. Maybe I should've accepted the drink first! :)

Remember the phrase "not my type". It's handy to weave into any response where you don't want to condemn anyone who's probably just made an honest mistake about your sex or sexual orientation. It can be said with a smile and you may just make a new friend instead of making someone feel bad.
The reason it works is that it doesn't assign any blame. For all you know, the poor guy may be dumb as a post or half blind, but man, would you really want to point that out?
You can follow the phrase with a short one to wish him luck with his quest or compliment his looks (not in a coming-on way, of course!) if he seems cool. Then let him go on his way.

You're right, Bill. He seemed like a nice guy and that would've been more tactful. Though I did at least smile when I replied. I guess I was taken a bit by surprise and diplomacy is not my strong point on the spur of the moment.
I saw him dancing with a hot blonde later on so I guess he recovered!

Anyway, it just goes to show that guys like that don't even look properly at their, uh, potential conquests. They want to get laid so desperately they just latch onto anything that they think remotely looks like a girl standing alone. Sad, really.

Anyway I was at an MSI show last week and happened to use the" not my type" line. It's my favorite smart ass comeback involving hair >.>
