My hair is mid-back and longer in length. For the most part, I just like wearing it full and hanging loose. That's just my preference. Oklahoma City, where my wife and I live with our son, is almost the hub of conservative thinking as far as geographic areas go. I notice when I get set to leave the house, whether it's to go out to eat, head to the grocery store, etc., I almost always tie the old mane into a tail. Why, I don't know. I would rather always have it loose, but is it nuts to tie it back occasionally because a guy knows it'll be more accepted?
Do what makes you more comfortable. I tend to wear my hair in a pony tail most of the time. I just prefer that it is out of my face. People notice me more when it is down, but it doesn't bother me. If you like wearing it down, then I would wear it that way.

This "was" how. This photo taken about 3 years ago when I did have long hair, and this "was" my usual way of wearing my hair especially when meeting important and very intelligent people such as Walter White Tail. What a great day that was! :-)
Justin~
Justin, that was a great look! If you don't mind my asking, what material was used for that band around your forehead? I'd like to try that sometime.
Hey jason! It is made of leather and is really easy to make yourself. Just go to a fabric store like Joannes and look through their spools of leather which they sell by the yard in all different sizes. Find the size you like and they will cut you a strip and then you just make the band using your own head as a template. Take care-
Justin~
I've found that a simple shoelace can do the trick too!
So what happened to your hair, Justin? I do have to say, and I'm sure this won't be a big shocker here on the long hair board: I prefer how you look in that picture as opposed to your profile pic.
My long hair was done in by 2 things:
1. A Salon demolishment.
2. Emergency surgery to save my life which resulted in about 9 months of hair that kept falling out. There was really nothing left to save.
Justin~
Aww, I'm very sorry to hear that! At least you've had very long hair and you can look back on that fondly I'm sure.
Hi Justin! I used to watch your youtube videos. How are you? How is your heart? I hope all is well with you.
best,
rowie
Hi rowie

Hey Justin,
I'm so glad Rowie posted the link to your youtube video, it gave me a much needed laugh after a long day of work. I've enjoyed reading your posts here, and It was fun to see your great personality on the video!
I totally send myself into laughing fits also! I wish you the best of health and happiness.

Usually up...but then, it is usually up regardless. If I am in the mood, down...although there are plenty of times when it is up and the stick is getting loose, I'll just pull the stick and let it loose for a while...likewise, when it is down, if conditions warrant (wind, rain, crowding) I'll put it up. Of course, changing from one to the other is quick...down is one handed, pull stick, shake head; up requires two hands and about 10 seconds.
For me it depends on how it turned out when it dried after showering: on "good hair days" I let it loose if I can get it looking halfway decent, but on the not-so-good hair days it's a low ponytail or a bun. And I guess it's also contingent on whom you intend to meet - do you want to stand out, or keep a low profile?
In answering your above question:
In my opinion, no, it's perfectly normal to want to do one's best to "fit in" with the rest of the world -- especially if you know you are going to STAND OUT in your community, regardless! (Meaning: long hair in and of itself, no matter how you choose to wear it, will cause you to stand out from the crowd, regardless -- and even more-so in a socially conservative-thinking area of the country / world.)
When my nearest nephew was young, I was invited by my brother and sister-in-law to attend a fancy tuxedo-type event in a more socially conservative suburb of San Francisco. It was a special benefit dinner-dance & "fashion show" that included my nephew and other kids in the show, so I wanted to go and be supportive; but of course, had to figure out something to do with my hair...
I ended up making a very neatly-done tidy braid for myself -- and yet a guy one table away from me, suddenly turned and said very loudly, "Hey, I didn't know they allowed FREAKS in here!" I laughed and kidded him back (even though I wasn't 100% sure he was joking or not with his comment, as he was a total stranger to me; but I decided it was best to err on the side of humor)...
But, had I worn my hair loose that evening, I would have been waaay more self-conscious -- which made me glad I tried my best to "fit in" by choosing to wear a braid instead.
Anything much past shoulder-length, in my experience at least, usually feels more comfortable to tie the hair back before going out in order to not feel as conspicuous.
My $.02 on the subject, at least!!

I generally wear it loose. Although I also check the weather outside, if it is a windy day i'll eitehr tie it into a pony
tail or braid it to prevent damage.
Around here it's just as accepted either way. Also alot of
people around already know I have long hair.
My hair is below shoulders, almost midback. I Always wear it loose and down. It looks best on me that way. I use spray in front to keep it out of my eyes at work etc. Have had essentially no negative(but lots of positive) comments about it. I live in a relatively conservative part of central Florida, but not extreme.

I use about 10 hair elastics along the entire length of my tail. This contains it and stops tangles. My ponytail reaches my knees, which can be a safety issue as well.
Scott
I often braid it or keep it in multiple hair ties like Scott does. My hair is fine and gets tangled if leave it down too much.
Here's one of my usual going out looks. I often do the beard in two braids, too.
Wow Oren_ Your beard is awesome, I really like it not sure I have seen a beard that long, pluse your long hair--beautiful. Take care.

Your beard is absolutely gorgeous, Oren. Mine has gotten a bit longer, but nothing close to what you have.
Scott
It depends on where I am.
Work: braid or bun because of it being a laborous job. When we're done and are cleaning the warehouse I occasionally take my hair down.
Anywhere else: usually just leave it down, sometimes though I'll keep a bun, braid, pony, french braid, pigtails, half tail, or whatever I happen to think of :)
High braided ponytail. Looks very feminine, but on the right guy gets you a lot of compliments. As if femininity in men was a bad thing.
OKCdude,
Love to wear mine down(carry a comb in my pocket)but do get some strange looks when I pull hair out of my mouth and brush back over my shoulder. The "extra protein" gag miffs them even more if they ask! Oh Well!
peace, jonalbear
Tends to get really windy here up in the canyons No. of Los Angeles so I tail it up. Otherwise it just blows around and gets in my face making me look more like cousin it than a dude with long hair.
