Longer hair is far healthier for the scalp and prevents hair loss. However, super short hair is not the only thing that causes hair loss. Chlorine added to the public water supply is a great cause of hair loss as well. A simple thing you must do is get a chlorine filter for your showerhead. Chlorine destroys protein in our bodies and causes adverse effects on skin and hair. Chlorine softens the hairs protective outer shell, its scaly cuticle. In fact, under an electron microscope, the cuticle can be seen to have melted or worn away. In fact it only takes 10 hours of chlorine exposure to damage the hair. If chlorine can melt hair, think about the damage it can cause to the hair follicle itself. Chlorine is also absorbed into the body during hot showers. The toxic gases can also lead to cancer of your inner organs. The showerhead filter I use is the "Sprite" brand, which in the U.S. can be purchased at Lowes and probably Home Depot as well. The picture shows the replacement cartridge (replace every six months) and the label on the cartridge shows the showerhead. You'll feel the difference from day one!
Our LONG HAIRitage: avoid Chlorine
I have to imagine that using a typical swimming pool is even worse then.Especially public pools where I'd imagine they lard up on chlorine to avoid lawsuits from people who might get sick from contaminated water.I myself don't use pools mainly for concerns about affects on my hair from excess chemical exposure.I'll consider that shower head but have to ask do you have interest in Home Depot, Lowes, or Sprite?Cheers
Mark
Yes, I avoid swimming pools as well. And no I don't have any interest in Sprite filters or Home Depot or Lowes. Since I found out about the chlorine issue I simply found the Sprite one on-line. Later I found out that Lowes sells them and the replacement cartridges. My skin is much less dry now.

I regret to say that this is unproven nonsense being peddled by someone selling a book. You should not fall for it so uncritically.
Clearly, you are unstudied on the subject. Perhaps you ought to do your own research. Chlorine is hard on the body - PERIOD!

Umm, correct me if I'm wrong, but regular drinking water wouldn't have any chlorine in it, would it? The whole reason it's used in swimming pools is to keep them clean. And it's certainly a terrible idea to drink water with chlorine in it. I don't see why it would be added to drinking water.
Chlorine is certainly added to all tap water here in England. It's used to kill bacteria. See the "Disinfection" section in the link below.

Yes, chlorine is in the public water supply, even for drinking water - this is the problem. It's put in the water to kill all microorganisms. It does a good job, but causes those health problems I describe.
