Last month I posted some pics of me using various hairbands. The one I liked best was using my sunglasses, but they looked a bit silly to wear all the time so I decided to buy a thin alice band. I absolutely love how it keeps my hair out of my face when at work each night.
What do you guys like to use to keep your hair in check during the awkward phase?
- Chris
Hey Chris, that alice band looks and works great for you. It's been a very long time since I was in any sort of awkward stage but I know that wasn't something I used at the time. However I've been considering wearing one, even with my already long hair,as an alternative to a regular ponytail.I would wear it mainly for outdoor use should any breezes blow hair in my face.If its really windy I would just fully restrain all my hair to avoid tangles but for gentle breezes no problem.I guess you bought yours in any typical store that sells cosmetics.Cheers

Thanks.
Yeah I got it from a regular drug/cosmetics store. They are inexpensive.

Wow it feels like it was only yesterday that I was like you; coming up with all sorts of styles to get through the awkward stage. This picture is one of many styles I did when I was in the awkward stage. I can't believe I'm sharing this... The headband I used is made by Scunci (with an umlaut u), I bought it at Walgreens. It has spikes all over, I'm pretty sure it is a common headband you can find in any drugstore. Good luck! I hope this helps.

Hi rowie,
I'm just curious as to what camera you use for the vintage effect like the headband photo you've posted. I've been searching for a vintage style cam for a while now, any advice is greatly appreciated! :)
Kind Regards, James
Hi James,
Thanks for your interest in one of my pics. I used the Hipstamatic app for the iPhone/iPod touch. I cannot emphasize how much this app revolutionized my photography. The pic I've showed is smaller in scale, but when you upload it to your computer the prints comes out huge! You can also order the actual prints to be delivered to your home (in many different sizes). I've been using this app since it first came out in 2008. Hipstamatic app by Synthetic corp is an Apple exclusive app, meaning you can only buy their products in Apple's app store or in iTunes. Synthetic corp also have two other vintage apps called "Incredibooth" and the "Hipstamatic Disposable series." I personally would stick first to the original "Hipstamatic" before venturing to their other apps.
One warning with the Hipstamatic app is that it made me so addicted to it that I bought each an every films/lens/flash sets they come up with via in-app purchase. They sometimes give out free lens packs, and they frequently release what they call "limited edition packs." But don't worry, if you've missed out on the limited edition packs, every winter holiday, or some holiday, they re-release limited edition films/packs on days they call "retro weekend." Another good app that notoriously copied Hipstamatic is called "Instagram," it is a free app, but their lens/films/flash sets are much few, and the quality is not the same as Hipstamatic. For your convenience I'll include the official Hipstamatic site for you to explore.
I hope this helps!

Chris,
Having long hair for so many years I always wanted something to hold my hair without calling more attention that the hair itself... LOL
I wanted something effective, discrete and kind of masculine. So, after trying all hair acessories, -in general made for women, because they simply ignore the fact that we longhaired men need acessories too!
So, I decided to put my mind and my hands to work and I finally invented something myself and named it "the TIARERÊ". kind of complicated to explain in English, but the name is a junction of two words in portuguese "tiara" (Alice band) and "tererê" (it's a popular hair adornment they make in Salvador/Bahia that consists in braiding a very small piece of your hair with colorful strings and small beads. Google "tiarere Brazil" in images and you'll have a better idea of what I'm saying)
Well, I did it with two types of material fake leather and nickel beads and waxed string and nickel beads and I think I solved the problem really well and made extra money, since some people loved it and i had to accept selling it. hehehe
I'm posting some pics. In all of them I'm wearing it.
And it's wind proof too!
It's impossible to upload more than one pic...
Looks good on you, Walter!
- Oren
You can see it better here. It's the fake leather one.
